Personally, I feel that this home catering fad is going the wrong way, just like traditional wedding dinner. A lot of people of more concern with 'face' than the actual purpose of the catering. On most occasion, I am not even bothered if the host prepared any food. If got, eat some, don't have, no issue.

Further more, all i ever eat is that fried beehoon with curry (steal a few potatoes if I can). One or two fishballs etc. Nothing that cannot be done at home with the help of someone more kitchen efficient. I am not looking for a culinary experience when I visit. Nothing a big pot of curry, fried beehoon, copious amount of fishballs/ midwings (I dun like boxing and avoid using my hands when I am not properly seated) cannot solve. And cheapo oren syrup but most importantly must be very cold.

my house warming, i wanted to get catering initially. However, at the time of booking i only estimated about 20+ pax but couldn't find a catering service for 20 pax that i thought was value for money (eg. no food warmers, no table setup etc).

30 is a nice number that is easy to book, but if only 20 is tough.

So got my MIL to buy some good laksa. My mum prepared some chinese food, i ordered pizza and bought some drinks, ice cream and used my oven + air fryer to cook some finger food. Think it was better than any catered buffet. But more effort definitely. But still managed to keep it simple.
