For someone like Sabbie who is deeply addicted to MCF, clocking 40-50 posts a day, sure make a come back. This is like drug addict. [laugh]

U seldom see a newbie who can clock so many post within 24 hrs. So must be him lah.

Acquisitiveness kills the general public's quality of life. Looking at some negative examples, I do not understand why some people buy a big cars, or a high end branded bags just to satisfy the need to acquire these so called status items.

Read the past issue of Sunday Times, consumers are increasingly taking loans to satisfy their "need to own material items" be it luxury items, holidays and *specific to this forum*, cars.

My take on this :

Who look better ?

A nice looking Guy wearing a $30 White shirt ?

A average looking Guy wearing a $300 White shirt ?

Answer : The one who looks better of course..

Its is not the clothes you wear, its not the things you drape on your body. Its how you present yourself that makes the mark of a Gentleman.

If some one tells you that wearing that Watch defines you, then you are not very well defined in the 1st place.

The deeply-rooted desire for material possessions is a surrogate for the spiritual void that many feel in their lives. What is it that Man seeks in life? For many, the pursuit of sensual pleasures is of top priority. They seek comfort in the temporal satisfaction which pleasures of the flesh bring to them. When the adrenalin rush of one activity comes to an end, they rush to find the next activity which gives them the same amount of excitement and kick. Sex, drugs, booze, material possessions, etc - an endless pursuit of sensual pleasures.

Spirituality is not equivalent to religiosity. Going to the church or temple every day of the week does not equate to spiritual growth. The satisfaction of spiritual hunger can only be achieved through reflection and contemplation on one's own actions and thoughts, the growing of inner wisdom and the ability to see the Truth in the mundane matters that we are embroiled in on a day to day basis. As one grows in wisdom, he begins to see the falsehoods that are being propagated so quickly in the world today via the internet and mass media. He starts to realise that true deep-seated happiness cannot be achieved through the satisfaction of sensual pleasures only.

True happiness can only arise from great wisdom; ironically in the world today, the very leaders of society that the people depend on for guidance are advocating capitalism and materialism, and incorporating policies that are directed to increasing the amount of ignorance in the world. They block the masses from the truth, choosing instead to keep them blind so that they are more easily manipulated and led. They feed the populace with mental drugs that provide temporary fulfilment but like steroids rob the individual of mental health in the long run.

This is the system that the world is in today.

Notice how deep-rooted acquisitiveness is in our society.

Driven by desires kindled by the ideals of mass consumerisms, people work longer & longer hours to the detriments of their health, spending little time with their chilldren, and oddly; spending little time with their acqusitions.

In the case of acquiring a new car, they probably spend too much time in it, getting stuck in traffic day after day because everyone wants a car, and everyone wants to live somewhere nice, far away from where they work...

It was related to me that there were people who slog away, putting in long hours at work so as to earn the bucks to pay off the mortgage on their condo, whereby it was their maid who can 'find the leisure time' to enjoy the condo' facilities.

Such irony... after paying for the acquisition, one hardly had time to use it !

they buy to haolian that they can afford it....

but they are not rich enough to enjoy it

bro, your topic came at the right thread.

lately, i really feel un-belong in sg. [bigcry]

The pace is going too fast, at my age of 34, i feel everyday is such a mono.. a stereotype rat race.

I’m not chasing after wealth or materials. And sad to say, i feel my income is like hand to mouth situation, it’s barely enough..

I’m just an average Singaporean..

Thinking of going ipoh with my gf, and probably stay there for good.

Renting out the hdb, using it as a passive income.

Probably find a job or start my interest in ipoh.. [;)]

Any brothers also shared the same stress?

count me in. but Income still ok... can save.

you not married. got HDB to rent out???

Thanks very much for sharing your thoughts.

Recently, an elderly had these words for me:

Learn to maintain calm in your life

Cultivate an inner peace with oneself

Do not harbour desires for worldly materials. One came with nothing and will be going off with nothing too

Live each day like it's the last... without regrets
