Shull Turbocharged July 7, 2015 Share July 7, 2015 "Preliminary investigations found a faulty train which could have caused the power to trip; arcing was observed on the underside of this train. The power surge caused the protective relays across the entire North South East West Lines network to be activated, leading to a shut-down of power across the two lines. We will continue to comb through the system through the night to see if there could be other faulty trains or other causes." http://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/singapore/faulty-train-could-have/1967418.html Trains overworked due to higher demand... all points back to the increase in population without the corresponding increase in infrastructure. ↡ Advertisement

Sosaria Twincharged July 7, 2015 Share July 7, 2015 Trains overworked due to higher demand... all points back to the increase in population without the corresponding increase in infrastructure. The system is too far screwed to be redeemed, IMHO, no matter what is done. Unless there is a massive investment of infrastructure, and a long period of shutdown of the system to phase in the new infrastructure. The long period of running without proper maintenance has taken its toll and now the whole thing is to be messed up to have any hope of piecemeal efforts having any significant effect. I pity those engineers, technicians in SMRT have to cope with this.
Kyrios Turbocharged July 7, 2015 Share July 7, 2015 Suddenly all the money I spent on owning car look very worthwhile now...it will be some time before singaporeans are convinced to give up their cars.. Hmm..like I also say, if only they commit the same amount of ministerial and governmental resources like they did when they investigated aljunied town council, there will be no such faux pas embarassing issues on our train line ..

Yewheng Twincharged July 7, 2015 Share July 7, 2015 (edited) The newest batch of train which will be in service in year 2016 is even heavier then the current new one may cause even more problem. Don't know why smrt order train that the weight keep increase. Couldn't they order train that would at least maintain the weight? Like the newest batch is a lot heavier then the older one by 1/4 when full load. That could put a lot more stress to the track. Imagine they detect power fault due to faulty train. Is it really 100% because of fault train? Could it be the weight of the train combine with too many people in the train that cause the train to sag down to the level that may be dangerously low and touch the power line that causes power surge and trip the whole ns Ew line? Check out see tuck yew Facebook The comments dam funny!!! https://www.facebook.com/luituckyew/posts/1137046296325814 Hi, thanks for sharing, didnt know the extend of the issue until after reading the comments Pity the folks who were denied of a secure public transport system Been hearing sorry too many times, can't they just fixed this issues even if it means doing partial closure of tracks/stations to invest in thr maintenance or change of system? I think the issues are serious enough and too frequent, people can understand the temp. Inconvenience of tracks/station closure for repairs if this temp. Inconvenience can solve the long standing issues once n for all.

Tayspiderx 3rd Gear July 7, 2015 Share July 7, 2015 Cannot imagine how the " whacking " will intensify down the line ! Pinobii Hypersonic July 7, 2015 Share July 7, 2015 first step is they should de-list smrt, then they can let go of the burden of delivering profits to the board n shareholders Without this, they will always be trying to think of ways to solve the issues by not affecting top line Not a bad thing but the problem has become serious enough that they should fix the issues at one go n p&l should not be the reason causing the repetitive breakdowns
