Either RAM modules or paged memory in your HDD got problem.

 

1.) Run memtest and/or resit memory modules again

2.) Use HDD utilities e.g. Defraggler to check health of your HDD.

 

memtest clear.

 

resit already.

 

i cant defrag. the drive is "dirty". I can clean it and unset

 

then the moment i click defrag, it becomes "dirty" again..

how long you run memtest? memtest how it works is that, if it encounters an error, you can confirm there is one. On the other hand, if it doesn't encounter an error, it doesn't necessarily mean you are definitely okay. it could well mean that memtest has yet to encounter an error.

 

what you mean by dirty? anyway use this and print screen result.

the problem: too many failed/bad sectors which cannot be used to store data. Usually HDDs have spare sectors i.e. redundancy sectors to replace those that are written off. However,for smooth and quick operations, contiguous storage is very much preferred meaning files are stored in a single block consisting of sectors next to each other.

 

so, you have a hard disk which resembles a patchwork with many "holes" that are unusable. problem, is paged memory or virtual memory i.e. portion of hard drive space allocated to act as RAM when your real RAM runs out, needs contiguous space.

 

therefore, you experience your BSOD because i believe Windows is forced to shift the space which paged memory resides everytime you start it up which in turn means that Windows sometimes try to access an area of your hard drive which it thinks is the paging memory but in effect, isn't.

 

And BAM, kernel panic.

 

My experience tells me that your HDD may uplorry soon. Mine died about half a year after i saw it went on caution.

i got too much games to reinstall.

btw, where are the bad sectors? the 4th option that is yellowed out?

1.) you can still do so but generally sector recount implies that there is a high chance there is a background factor causing sectors to fail thereby forcing the HDD to use its redundant sectors to replace them. So be prepared that this HDD will fail in time to come.

 

2.) it tells you there are 36 sectors on the regular platter(s) that have failed and are replaced.

 

3.) chkdsk simply does a check on sectors that are shown to it. Remember that the HDD has already done a sector reallocation meaning the Hard Disk will ask chkdsk to check the redundant sectors which are okay rather than the original sectors which are gone. Therefore, if one use chkdsk, one will never know.

so if i use another disk for OS, chances of failing will be less? but still there?

bad sectors fail liao nothing you can do about it. I think max replacement sectors avail is 100. Anyway before you even hit 100 sectors, you will probably encounter shitty fragmentation because sectors tend to fail randomly give you shitty fragmentation.

 

high chance it will continue to deteriorate. btw, excessive defragmentation can exacerbate such problems too.

so my "missing shortcuts", changed file extentions are all caused by this bad sector problem and is irreversible?

i dont think bad sector problems will cause those things actually. if you got bad sectors and they are replaced by good ones already, there is no reason anything will be affected other than performance.

then whats causing them?

 

some of my .jpg files have become .file...

 

after blue screen, sth sure disappears and changes.
