Woodman Neutral Newbie June 1, 2012 Share June 1, 2012 (edited) Yes the workshop has handed me over the full service history of the car which clearly states the mileage as 126k. What they wouldn't do for me was call the previous Owner to simply ask him what the mileage was when he sold my car. Aeras-95 Neutral Newbie June 1, 2012 Share June 1, 2012 I bought a Presage in feb this year with the clock at 109k. I so happened to put the car into the same garage this week which the previous Owner had used. I was informed that in June last year the clock was recored as 126k so more than 17k had been altered. My garage say they got the car from another dealer and were surprised as I was. They want to meet today to discuss. I already have a letter fro CASE which to hand to them telling them they're liable for misrepresentation and the LTA have advised to call the police. As there's a 8 month prior gap to me taking delivery I can only imagine the car has done more miles. Nowyour advice please what shall i tell the dealer? 1 - my thinking is you sold the car incorrectly therefore i want a full refund, take car back and police won't be called. 2 - full refund and police called 3 - demand a huge reduction is price back. My car is 5 years old so plan was to scrap it after 5 years so will it make a difference knwoing the clock has been altered. As my dealer will be arriving in a few hours your advice would be most gratefully received. End of the day, wat you want? Money? If not, dont bother. Not worth going thru legal. Legal fee not cheap. When choosing option 3,be careful cos may be considered blackmailing.
Woodman Neutral Newbie June 1, 2012 Share June 1, 2012 To be honest I'm not sure what i want. Start of the week i was like great get a big reduction in the car then I've been thinking all week that I've been had and that they should be taught a lesson. End of the day I've already had pay a lot of money this week for repairs and with the mileage of the car unknown I don't want to end of paying thousands more for car which I don't know it's accurate mileage. I've simply been cheated.
Meanmachine Supercharged June 1, 2012 Share June 1, 2012 Trace the former owner to testify? Even if you do, previous owner are ' bo chap ' why get involved ' since he/she already sold donkeys days ago...
Meanmachine Supercharged June 1, 2012 Share June 1, 2012 I tried making a police report cos my car mileage was tempered, with proof, the police say is civil suit. Do not want to take the compliant. And told me that the previous owner may have change the odometer. WTF. I bought my car from direct owner from sgcarmart. The owner damn good at acting blurrrrrr. Bro allow me to share this true story of one of my friend, his car and mine were bought directly ( 1st hand ) from a tip Jap AD, after 2-3 years of pleasure driving his car odometer ' kaputed ' he has it changed brand new and voila his odometers starts from ZERO to HERO. And mine was still abv average than his, does it translate to his car odometer being altered after 3 years as " ZERO " unlikely correct ? Some-times the quality is at fault, some times it owners. In tis car industry, it is who knows U rather who U know matters, my fren has got his part changed for FREE . He did not tampered / altered or do anything, we are car-enthusiaist . Johnnylim 5th Gear June 1, 2012 Share June 1, 2012 option 3 for me. else i call police and you end your business. U think they 'greenbird'? It's so common, they'll know all the tricks to wriggle out of it. I dun think I've read of reported cases in the media of them being caught/charged red-handed. That being the case, I would probably settle for some compensation to cover my repairs n also change the timing belt, which I think is the most impt part. Spaxe Clutched June 13, 2012 Share June 13, 2012 Hey all I have seen a car being sold through Quotz. 2006 blue Latio with 210K mileage but advertised as low mileage! I was shocked but now I know how rampant this is in used car market. Sigh.
SimonTan 2nd Gear June 13, 2012 Share June 13, 2012 Surely it's not uncommon. Man want virgin or almost virgin wife too. So the dealers are just giving the buyer what they like to see and hear.

Json Neutral Newbie June 15, 2012 Share June 15, 2012 Alter engine mileage, everyone is doing it. View the condition of the car yourself is still the most accurate. Some things to lookout for include engine vibration, engine sound, wear and tear in the car interior, blah blah
MacDuck 1st Gear June 21, 2012 Share June 21, 2012 (edited) Original article: http://www.todayonline.com/Singapore/EDC12...n-the-rise-here By Sumita Sreedharan 04:45 AM Jun 21, 2012 SINGAPORE - When he first bought a second-hand Toyota Camry last July, he was told by the second-hand car dealer that it had been driven 60,374km. The car was brought to Toyota's authorised dealer Borneo Motors for servicing soon after, where official servicing records indicated the car's mileage was 140,056km instead. "I was shocked to find out that the car's odometer had been tampered with by as much as 80,000km," said the buyer, who wanted to be known as Mr Aw as the case is pending before the authorities. While such complaints appear rare compared to others lodged by consumers, more cases concerning odometer tampering have surfaced in recent years, according to consumer watchdog The Consumers Association of Singapore (Case). Six cases of odometer tampering have surfaced this year, one more than the total number witnessed last year. There were nine such cases in 2010, and two cases in 2009. With buyers snapping up second-hand cars in record numbers as a tight supply of Certificates of Entitlement makes new cars too expensive, some are concerned that odometer tampering may go undetected. Accountant Charles Chong, 35, said the authorities should do more to stamp out odometer tampering. "It is not only unethical for the car dealers to misrepresent the car, it is also a matter of safety," he said. Mr Aw felt that most people with cars that are three years or older do not usually send their cars to authorised dealers for servicing, which means they would never know if they were cheated or not. The 32-year-old financial consultant has filed a police report against the second-hand car dealer and a police spokesperson said investigations are in progress. If the dealer is aware that the odometer has been tampered with and fails to disclose, the dealer would be misleading the consumer and thus be in breach of the Consumer Protection (Fair Trading) Act, said Case executive director Seah Seng Choon. Case advises consumers to protect their interests by insisting that the car dealer produce a technical report on the vehicle from a reputable workshop to certify that the car is in good condition and that the odometer has not been tampered with. According to Case, some of the common complaints against the motorcar industry include misleading claims, defective goods and unsatisfactory service. There were 1,258 complaints against the general motorcar industry last year, an increase from the 1,232 in 2010. In the first five months of this year, Case has received some 741 complaints against the motorcar industry. Edited June 21, 2012 by MacDuck

13177 Hypersonic June 21, 2012 Share June 21, 2012 really......car buyers are so naive, suagu at best Agreed, cannot believe buyers would believe that a car which is 5 year old or more, mileage can be less than 100K.
Shanhz 3rd Gear June 21, 2012 Share June 21, 2012 the number of cases reported are small, not becoz there are few cases, but becoz most cases are difficult to prove. when i bot one of my previous cars, just listening to the engine and the belt squeak, i knew the mileage was >100k. but indicated was 55k. unfortunately, becoz PI car, no way to prove. also, i liked the car plate so i bot it despite knowing the odo was tampered with. this case for our bro here was surfaced with real proof, becoz the dealer got complacent and never covered his tracks well. those who are experienced would never have tampered with an AD car becoz it is easily traceable, if it had been regularly serviced at AD. this practice will not go away, it will just be practiced more carefully. the authorities have to step in, if they want to show that they are doing work. (ie: GE2016 victory). suggestions posted here have made sense - renewal of road tax must record mileage of car. with all due respect. TS shld have called BM before he made the purchase. that is what i always do, and always insist on getting AD car instead of PI car, so tat i can chk mileage. ↡ Advertisement
