Electric cars

To concur, I ask chatgpt whether 15kwh/100km or 20kwh/100km is better.

The reply:

For an EV, 15 kWh/100 km is better than 20 kWh/100 km.

Here’s why:

🔌 What the numbers mean

kWh/100 km measures how much electrical energy the car uses to travel 100 km.

Think of it like litres per 100 km for petrol cars — lower is more energy-efficient.

Comparison

ConsumptionMeaningEfficiency

15 kWh/100 kmUses 15 kWh to travel 100 kmMore efficient

20 kWh/100 kmUses 20 kWh to travel 100 kmLess efficient

📌 Real-world impact

Lower running cost: At $0.30/kWh (SG rate),

15 kWh → $4.50 per 100 km

20 kWh → $6.00 per 100 km

i am abit confused. isn't 12.9kwh/100km or 14.5kwh/100km better than rated at 19.9kwh/100km? Isn't your car doing well?

Yes but tiagong Model Y can do below 12.9 on a bad day and even go below 10 if really try. So the SL7 is better than paper but still behind the curve.

I noticed once past 100, the energy consumption shoots up geometrically. You see that Chinese report linked by previous poster. Even Tesla's were reporting 20+/100km because they tested at 120kph.

Model Y weight is about 1800kg, SL7 is around 2200kg lah.

Does it really matters..  Important is we love our own ride.

Tesla is a no no for me... zero button is not ok for me.  Also never like the look.

Same same here cannot tahan Tesla interior and Y exterior. But then I am also quite happy with my dead Dino juice burners (after chipping more than 400 Nm) and have no urge to replace them.

How are you driving around? or you pushing the car? :D

My average is at least 19-20kWh.

Wah. 480kW chargers are arriving soon. 5 mins add around 200km of range (if compatible). How widespread will such charger be in another 5 years?

A whopping 55 charging points will soon open at the B3 and B3A floors of Great World's carpark, including 20 of Huawei's rapid 480kW DC chargers.

Some how I felt I drive more gentle than my ex Forester XT. Last time always like to stomp the accelerator when enter clear expressway or overtaking.

Nowadays like just enter without any feel... or because it's too quiet.

Forester I love hear the engine roar at higher rpm. Something I still missed with EV. My Forester is stage 1 tuned. No change in exhaust. As I don't like loud exhaust. Too Beng for me.

This is my Enyaq 7 days average.

Model Y is 1966kg and Sealion battery is much bigger (62kwh vs 82kwh) which is why heavier as well.

Is that one of the reasons why Chinese EVs generally have very low speed limits despite the high HP?

So far no need any maintenance right?

I wondering how long my brake pads and rotors are gonna last, they dont seem to get much use.

That's a very good average considering the weight and size of your enyaq.

For my m3p (pre highland), I notice that the power consumption seems to be most efficient in the 70-90km/hr range.

When i drive to work in the morning with moderately heavy traffic (means i hardly get the chance to exceed 80km/hr even on the highway), I usually average around 12-13kwh/100km per trip. But on the way home, especially if i leave office later after 8pm where traffic is much smoother and I can drive much faster, I usually average 13-14kwh/100km per trip.

For EVs, the brake pads and rotors possible to last for the full 10 years due to the one-pedal driving. But do remember to change your brake fluid at the recommended intervals.

Personally, I'd prefer to change the pads at the 5th year point.

Skoda schedule every 15k km backing for 'servicing', not much thing. Basically changing aircon filter, checking those brake pad thickness(no sensor) etc.. Car washing.

Belong to they provide during sale package.

I'm in 2 minds on all these fast DC chargers. As an EV driver, if I go to a shopping mall, I hardly even bother to use the DC charger unless really no choice and I'm out of juice.

  1. Price. Usually DC chargers are more expensive than those AC chargers found in residential areas.
  2. Idle fees (will be everywhere sooner or later). That means my car will probably be fully charged in under an hour... which means I'll need to shift my car shortly after nicely seated down at a restaurant waiting for my food... and spend some time hunting and waiting for a parking lot while my family is happily enjoying a hot meal😑
  3. Battery health. While this is technically not really applicable for sg because of our low mileage and 10 years lifespan of cars, it's still human nature that many of us will prefer to baby our battery especially when our cars are still generally new.
