Big hoohas...

I am a simple person so give simple sugguestions for bicycle lanes if implemented which I think it will not.

1) Cyclists on the road = complusory insurance coverage

2) Plan for ERP on bicycle if mandatory lane for them on the road

3) Bicycle category pegged to age for taxation

4) Bicycles = pedal operated, battery/hybrid bikes are not forbidden

5) Complusory protective gear for cyclist and 1 passenger (all ages)

6) Maximum load of bicycle = 1 rider + 1 passenger with proper seat installed and pt 1 + pt 5 applicable to passenger

7) Complusory spring operated ring horn (ling ling!!) only

8) Complusory rear blinkers and front light for night riding.

9) Handicap wheelers are not allowed on bicycle lanes

10) No riding on foot paths, walkways, bridges, buildings, void decks, hawker centre, carparks, etc

11) Bicycle designate parking areas/fees to be implemented and any bicycles flaunting this will be fined and impounded.

12) No usage of moblie phones, umbrellas, reading periodicals when riding bicycle.

Ok.. thank you for reading so any other inputs?? :D:D

In this particular case, maybe the cyclists feel they have "strength in numbers", i.e. there is enough of them to "justify" occupying one whole lane. So they are not so different from a very slow moving lorry driving on the slowest lane.

Yup, i saw acts like these at changi coast road, loyang and pasir ris neighbourhood.

I also saw ang moh ride bicycle (racer type) on ECP road shoulder before.

fellow people, i think it is pointless debating who is right who is wrong, who pay tax who doesnt, who use the road and who dont. got balls go and ask LTA or TP for advice and get ur law well before u hit ur keyboard here those keyboard warrior. In the eyes of the law, all vehicles (and a bicycle is classed as a road vehicle) are entitled to equal protection under the law and all vehicles are required to abide by their respective responsibilities as road users and "http://app.lta.gov.sg/corp_press_content.asp?start=1985" u drive? u giv way to them. lan lan SUCK YOUR THUMB. u donwan giv way then DON DRIVE. even LTA support cycling on road. don agree send email to LTA lo fellow selfish coward drivers.

This is singapore, not ur GrandFather country. they tax u u pay and stfu. at most don buy car.

But you also here talking like a keyboard warrior urself what.....defintiely a pot calling kettle black. Your ridiculous kind of "donwan giv way then DON DRIVE" attitude can be easily met with an equally ridiculous "don't want to die, don't cycle" response right? How is that constructive?

And by the way, just to be clear, we are debating our opinions and suggestions and maybe even behaviour (of drivers and cyclists). We are not discussing what is "in the eyes of the law". That one let the lawyers debate and judges decide.

Good example why cyclist must ban from the road.

anyway we have a World Class Transport System who can bring anyone to anywhere within a reasonable time.

so the garman should ban bicycle from the road till our Highly Paid Ministesr think of how to solve this issue (eg build bigger road).

those who want to ride bicycle can ride in the park for leisure. those who think that the cycle track in the park is too bouncy, please pond your money and build a bicycle racing track since you want to cycle damm fast.

Bicycle bang bicylce at most a bruise here and there.

Bicycle bang car maybe get a broken hand or leg if lucky but better bring a big plastic bag along with you so that the car driver can cover the cyclist with it.

Bicyle bang lorry no need to say maybe can use the big plastic bag to collect all the broken parts.

Another problem is Traffic Police. They should come up with a proper set of rules and regulations to remind cyclists and drivers of what are the rights and wrongs. By keeping quiet, the cyclists nowadays are just taking things for granted and gone too far now.

I say ban them lah....

For goodness sake, we're already running out of space to build new flats/houses. Even lunch time must stand and wait for seat and here we have these enthusiasts wanting a dedicated cycling lane solely for their expensive weekend hobby? PCN not enough meh? Bunch of selfish idiots.

Wanna use the road, then accept the risk that comes with it. U think no accidents will happen simply by building cycling lanes?

Let them cycle where ever they liked lah

Anyhow in a accident they risk lost their live and we as driver walk away with only fines

Let them decide for themselves

I bet any TP or LTA officer dare challenge a group of Ang Moh cyclists

Let wait for that day when ambulance or police car run onto them

It'll be show time

Mm...i wonder how some black sheeps can become the whole cycling community....Lolz...

Is it so difficult to be gracious on the road? Is that 5-10 sec delay before the driver overtake the cyclist sooooooo important?

So if the government states that cyclists are suppose to ride on the road, why cant drivers just accept that they are part of the road instead of lamenting them to be off the road.

Is it cause of the ME attitude that alot of Singaporeans have?

I believe almost all cyclists understand the risks n dangers involve when they cycle on the road....at the end of the day the most important thing is just for drivers to show some patience n acceptance. This itself could minimise some dangers pose to the cyclists, isnt this a nicer world to live in?

I am a supporter that cyclist should have the right to use the road but like all road user they must follow the same traffic rule and norm.

However majority of them ride as those they are own the road.

i will love to think that they are a majority, but from the numbers that i see, i think they are minority. But without statistics on hand, this will be a baseless argument.

Every weekend, there are at least hundreds of cyclists on the road, so that few that we see cannot be term as majority.

i do agree with you that those black sheeps are giving cyclists a very bad name. If they cant be bothered about their own safety, nobody can help them, they will only add on to the statistics..

It's not about ME attitude but more of common sense and being reasonable.

Majority of these cyclist are just riding as a HOBBY and for that, they are asking for dedicated lanes, more protection etc? Hello... i think they should get their perspective right. There are other more urgent priorities out there for the government to look into.

Yes, someone died and it's unfortunate. But everyday, you have people dying from accidents (cars vs cars, motorbikes vs cars, cars vs pedestrians etc) so what makes these cyclists any special? Wanna ride on the road, then accept the risk that comes with it. Be responsible and culpable just like any other motorists. Frankly no amount of fancy LEDs, helmets, carbon fibre frames or even government ENDORSED regulations will save you if you choose to ride like an idiot.

Yep. Singapore is really small and space is running out. Due to the lack of space, won't it be even harder to accommodate so many cars? Why not just ban all cars unless you are handicapped or using the vehicle for commercial purposes. Only can drive on the roads if you are transporting goods or handicapped. This way, can encourage more people to use the roads to cycle since the space taken by one car is definitely alot more than the space taken by one bicycle.

Cyclist really should understand that they should ride to the left on a single file.

The poor car on the right had to almost drive onto the kerb to avoid him.

Yep the guy that cycled out onto the next lane is wrong. Cuz he isn't overtaking the rest of the bicycles. Cyclists can only legally cycle two abreast unless overtaking.

How can don't want to give way be compared to not wanting to die? Then I might as well reply you if don't want to die, don't come out of the house cuz there is a chance of accident happening anytime. Even walking on the pavement also can get hit by car mounting the kerb because driver speeding or got stroke.

Sure and since you're on this, I propose this.

Since the weekend warriors want a bicycle lane. How about we further sub-divide the roads? Lane 4 for bus/lorries/commercial veh. Lane 3 for motorbikes, Lane 2 for cars up to 1.6L. Lane 4 for cars above 2.0L. Same for MRT train cabins.... Cabin 1 for chinese, Cabin 2 for malays, Cabin 3 for indian, Cabin 4 for PRCs, Cabin 5 for Pinoys, Cabin 6 for other races/nationalities. We could go on and on and on and on.

The point is, wanna use the road, accept the risk. The cyclists are already not required to take theory test or pay for the usage so what more they want?

It's the same as the argument on repealing section 377A, The more gay (cycling) activists push their agenda, he said, the stronger will be the push back from conservative forces (non-cyclists) in the society.

my understanding is that they are not even suppose to cycle 2 by 2.

ROAD TRAFFIC ACT

(CHAPTER 276, SECTION 140)

ROAD TRAFFIC (BICYCLES) RULES

8.

Every bicycle shall be ridden close to the left hand edge of the roadway and in such a manner as not to obstruct vehicles moving at a faster speed.
