I pump esso/mobil in jb n recently i find their new petron petrol is smoother n quieter.

 

Maybe i wil stay wh it.

Last week i ask counter ger n she say ty already using petron petrol but name still never change.

 

Then i realised e new petrol so far not bad.

I think kerosene is lighter than petrol. Its easier to burn in a jet engine.

 

Petrol is taken from a cut that is lighter than kerosene from crude oil. By the way, even Petrol does not exist as a pure cut from crude oil. Petrol is a blend of various hydrocarbon derived from crude oil. This is one of the reason why an identical spec petrol from vendor A feels slightly different from Vendor B, etc. The blends differ significantly.

I think there are some truths in higher RON having more power.. but it does not stem from the RON rating..

 

One of the factors in how much energy an internal combustion engine can extract from a fuel is the difference in temperature before and after combustion.

 

By putting more additives into the higher RON blend to encourage higher combustion temperature, theoretically it will generate more power, but at the cost of shorter engine life (which doesn't really matter in Singapore, since we use our cars for a relatively short span).

 

Anyway, something which can be directly measured is the fuel consumption. For me, my Lancer GLX says need min RON95. But somehow 98 gives me around 0.3-0.5km/lit more than 95.

The difference between 98 and 95 is abt $15 per month for me.So not a big deal, so 98 is my preference.

Oh ok. I know e petrol also provides cooling to e piston n valves.

 

Early Saabs were 2 stroke n had oil injection technology.
