Higher RON = More Power?

i tell you the higher ron you pump the better the millage, who's with me?

tested on 2 cars, both same effect.

i don't travel much and i pump around 300 liters per month.

I'm driving an Audi A5, I had been using 98 fuel since day one and had "enjoyed" FC of about 7 km/l. I changed to 95 the past 2 months, and my FC has "deteriorated" to slightly above 8km/l.

pumping different brand petrol got more difference than 95 vs 98....

Even the shiok level also different......some ppl pump SPC = low class, some ppl pump V Power = feels like king of the road.... whatever works.

Most likely is your mind playing a fool on you...... Since min is 91, anything below that will cause knocking on your engine........ Above that, waste $$........ you pump 120 also won't increase power.......

i think is the smoothness that some pple think is more power. my previous LGT BL9 recommend 95. i pump some 98 and notice during cold start in the morning, the noise from the inter-cooler area is so much lesser. acceleration was also much smoother. the turbo come the feel also a bit different, FC improve slightly only. after that pump spc 98 (pre levo) after 2 tank, feel it is not as smooth as the caltex. the current levo is slightly better but the caltex is still smoother and give slightly better FC than spc.

i remember reading you drive some subaru. i missed my bl9 man...

How much does it cost to put 2T into your tank ? More than the difference paid between the 2 rons? In terms of cost you are still paying more. So it goes back to square one.

Bro CH_CO,

FYI, 2T petrol additive is for any engines without engine oil lubrication, it is basically oil base to lubricate the pistons that causes white smoke emission.

I watched 5th gear and they did a test. Technically speaking, higher RON gives better power. 5th gear measured the bhp for different grades of petrol. The reason given for higher power with higher RON was the delay in combustion.

retail petrols we pump are called Reformulated Petrol, they are blended with additives to improve combustion, detergent, reduce friction, ...It's not pure RON 92, 95 or 98 petrol that came out directly from the oil refineries distillation columns.Companies have their top secret blending formulas of these additives. And different engine design and conditions, environment and lastly driver effect, will be or not be affected by change in fuel type.

Huh? for FC, isn't 8km/l better than 7km/l

Neutral Newbie

Have tried RON 92, 95, 98 and V-power in sg and 95 and 97 in msia on my current ride and previous ones... Can't feel any difference in the drive. Maybe it's just me. But psychologically, everytime pump msia petrol for long distance drive, always feel more shiok... Haha...

Cos over here stop and go, in nshw if traffic flow is low, don't even have to hit the brakes to reach KL. Just your butt feel.
