Pisces69 6th Gear October 9, 2012 Share October 9, 2012 Never experienced this before. The existing pads have already been used for months. This happened after some rounds of high speed traveling at NSHW. What I will do is this, service the calipers and swap the brake pad between the left and the right. If no good, may be skim the disc. If all else failed, just change the rotor. Regards, Like that chk if pads hv glazed over. Then grip not so good n better change pads. ↡ Advertisement
Subutai 3rd Gear October 9, 2012 Share October 9, 2012 Might be stuck stone pebble(s). Check if got uneven wear on brake discs (if its not drum). I use to pour water at the discs to clean it (when it is COLD) before moving off, found that it helps a bit as brake dust turn to machiam like rust powder. Throttle2 Supersonic October 9, 2012 Share October 9, 2012 Hi all, Lately, when I braked the car, the left wheel will give out this irritating "EEeee...." sound. The noise gets louder when I brake harder. The workshop fellow told me the brake pad is still very thick and it is perfectly normal to have the sound. Asked me not to spend the money unnecessarily. However, he can always change it and the noise may go away. What do you guys reckon? Thank you very much. Regards, I am an expert in this but not academically, rather due to my personal experiences with noisy brakes, so let me explain. a few reasons but the usual culprit is chalky brake dust. second is the wearing in of the pads and the compatability of the pads with regards to the rotors Warp rotors dont exactly cause sharp noises, they just weaken braking power and cause uneven wear. sharp squealing noises are the result of constant contact bringing about a stable resonance. Think violin bow and strings effect. Think sweet wrapper blowing effect. Your mechanic is not wrong. The noise plays no part is reducing braking power and is considered normal. It is therefore simply an irritant. Remedy:- Chamfer the corner of your pads so that the contact surface continuously alters as it wears out thereby "breaking" the creation of the resonance. usually works but may not totally get ride of short squeals. Hose off the chalky brake dust every once in a while. This is probably the most effective method but not a permanent solution. Replace both rotors and pads with factory standards so that they will be 100% compatible in terms of hardness and gripping. Have fun.
Throttle2 Supersonic October 9, 2012 Share October 9, 2012 normal to hv the sound? did it hv the same sound since the car rolled off the assembly line? did u replace it wif orig manufacturer pads? otherwise, sounds like a case of poor quality pads the ws sold u. not true Soya. Very high quality racing pads in fact tend to cause more squeals than cheap OEM pads.
Throttle2 Supersonic October 9, 2012 Share October 9, 2012 I think your workshop b-------t you. nope the workshop guy is not wrong. Brake squeals are normal and can happen anytime. all it takes is the contact points creating the right frequency. think, vinyl records, gramaphones. Tcx607 4th Gear October 12, 2012 Share October 12, 2012 IMO, squeals are normal in performance car brake especially BBK. However, EEeer... on B&B car is definitely not right. Highly prossibly wrong brake pad or low quality pad installed. Additional, brake pad may looks similar but actually wrong type/model to the car. If you practice heavy braking, your rotor also subject to warp or lines appearing on rotor. these are signs how the driver handle their ride.

If you practice heavy braking, your rotor also subject to warp or lines appearing on rotor. these are signs how the driver handle their ride. doesnt matter whether BBK or not. general brake squeal is normal. especially so when new brake pads are used on old rotors. Thats why if you hate squeals, replace bother rotors and pads at the same time ,is best. Rotors generally do not warp with heavy braking, unless you mean going to the track and breaking very hard many times over. Rotors tend to warp if they are subjected to sudden change in temperatures. Some materials and design warp easier than others... above are not opinions. they are facts. cheers
