The SG Drifters have a small perm carpet drift track now at their "HQ" in LW Technocentre, 31 Toh Guan Road East #02-07.

 

There are numerous FOC drift meets happening weekly around the island:

 

eg Friday nights at Kovan hub (old bus interchange), Sunday afternoon at Crawford Lane (Autodrift).

Ya last time we had a bunch from sgdrifters, mostly playing in multi storey carparks. But dunno why the site became inactive liow.

Now my friend also turned to playing rc crawler...not much ppl already..

wah...didnt know electric r/c can go that fast. where to get a gd set n how much will it cost? entry level type will b gd...very long time nvr play.

Few reasons why electric more popular than nitro;

1) less noisy so can play in built up areas

2) brushless motor matches or exceed nitro engine performance

3) LiPo batteries matches or exceed nitro performance

4) easy to maintain after play

5) 1/10 electrics vehicle components are now as bulletproof as 1/8 nitro

6) there are more local racing tracks supporting electrics

 

Ya. Got all my nitro cars when it was still cheaper to get a fast nitro car then an electric car thats equally fast. But for planes I still fly nitro planes cuz its still more fun and feels more realistic.

What brand & model is your buggy?

 

If it is hobby grade instead of toy grade, it will use a standard size 7.2V battery pack.

 

Did you buy it from a hobbyshop?

I need to go back and check the box. It was given to me 10 over years ago by my dad. he assembled and play with it for a while before giving to me. Dunno still working or not. But the last time i check, it seems that the batt pack is spoilt. Any shop i can go and have it checked?

Hmm ... this thread reminds me of the assembled Nikko Dandy Dash with an EX1 gun controller, .. that is lying somewhere in the storeroom, .. as well as a BNIB Clod Buster (Tamiya) which I received and never assembled.

I cant help much leh. I only have one R/C car, a Mini-Z Mit Pajero Overland. And its for display only. Played it like 2 - 3 times only.

 

 

 

Helicopter, a bit of plane, a bit of glider, boats and submarine can ask me. Cars, trucks, motorbike, tank, construction, robot, etc..... I got no clue!!! Too many hobbies to indulge in.

If it's assembled from pieces in a box it's "hobby grade".

If it's from long ago enough (vintage), it can be worth some serious money.

Vintage Tamiya Avante (1/10 buggy not Mini 4WD) from 1988 used to change hands on EBay for 1000+ dollars.

 

Anyway, if it's just a battery issue, its not that hard to fix.

Depends on what type of standard you want,low end model should be around $500-800,Pro ones can easily costs thousands,depends on what type of engine you choose.

err... I did recce around. The cheapest i found was Tamiya 1/10 nitro buggy 0.18 engine at $399. Another one was Kyosho truggy 1/10 scale 0.18 engine also $399.

 

The cheapest i've found so far is thru internet. www.nitrorcx.com/offroadbuggy1.html. A 1/10 scale 0.16 engine buggy only cost US$200 with shipping. But not sure if the seller is reliable.

This kind of price usually is those lower end model with pull start. When was the time you played 1/8? I rmb I got my starter box around 200+. Those with the SLA batt inside.

No glow plug heater and electric starter. Only pull start. Just need to buy glow fuel, batteries, glow plug heater locally and its good to go...

Correct me if I am wrong. I hope I can point out a few more advice.

 

First & foremost, your interest in r/c buggy hobby can be sustained with racing with others. If you are planning to enjoy it by running it alone, after the initial shiok feeling of buying it & hitting the fields, you might shelf it.

Moreover if I am not wrong, few people are running 1/10 nitro buggy. 1/10 nitro onroad was previously in the rage 10yrs back but I am not sure it is now. Go bottletree park at Yishun to absorb the offroad scene before committing.

Lastly, u need to think about spare parts availability.
