Alpha78 6th Gear January 9, 2013 Share January 9, 2013 Actually this BE is LPPL for WP. If they win, they need to eject one of their NCMPs so the total number of oppo in Parliament does not change Hmm... what happens if they field one of their NCMPs to stand? If win, no difference, NCMP become MP. What if they lose? Can re-nominate the guy for NCMP position?

Acemundo Supercharged January 9, 2013 Share January 9, 2013 I don't think so, especially with this being an SMC. All opposition parties are keen to give it a shot, with the hope of sending one of their guys into the parliament. But if what you said really happened, then i must say its one hell of a masterstroke! seriously i think SDA and RP should look at themselves in the mirror. even if freak results happen, it ain't going to be their candidate going into parliament, why come and scupper opposition cause? and SDP and WP can sit down and discuss. even though VW is more impressive speaker, SDP ought to give up because punggol was never an area near where they were active in. Or another possibility is maybe to have VW join WP and contest under their banner? But yes - I understand that WP has been active in PE for more than a year, and also, with a relatively strong showing there against a good candidate and a split vote last GE you would have to call WP the front-runners amongst all the opposition parties. Ahtong 1st Gear January 9, 2013 Share January 9, 2013 what is the rule for ncmp Minimum of 9 oppo allowed in this Parliament. If the number of elected oppo is <9, the balance is made up with NCMPs Right now there are 6 erected WP + 2 NCMP WP + Auntie Lina in Parliament. So if WP wins again, they will need to boot out 1 NCMP. Of course they can field one NCMP in Sengkang, but it affects their long term plans. For example YJJ has a very good chance in Joo Chiat. He was from the area and lost the last GE by a squeak. Then people will ask why field tua pui soh in Sengkang in 2011, then replace her suddenly with another (albeit better) candidate ... no sincerity
Gadgeter 2nd Gear January 9, 2013 Share January 9, 2013 Yeah - but if all the opposition parties contest 1. There will be a lot of deposits lost 2. They will split the "not PAP" vote, and you will probably see the "winner" get noticably less than 50% of vote I agree with you on that.

Civic2000 Supercharged January 9, 2013 Share January 9, 2013 opposition wanna kill each other? SINGAPORE - Punggol East may face a five-way battle if a by-election is called in the single-seat ward. On Dec 16, SDA secretary-general Desmond Lim spent about four hours walking around the ward. He can walk the ward for day and night, he will still have his deposit forfeited. Btw, I am one of the voters here, I will not vote for him.
