What kind of repair ?

Assuming, it's an electric kettle, if it's no power, check the fuse and wire. If the wire is plugged in type, replaced with another and test. If it's wired to the kettle, then it's difficult already.

There's a thermostat which clicks the power off (auto-off) when the water is boiled. The thermostat may be impaired or damaged. I cleaned up one on a kettle and the auto-off works again. But without knowing what kind of kettle you have, it's difficult to imagine.

The base works because I have two others like it, so it's the kettle that's dead..

1. Install this "luxury-looking" kitchen tap from Shopee. Chinese made $40, not $600 Grohe one. 😁

2. Just one pipe connector, as it's for cold water only. But nevertheless, difficult to install due to space constrain, between  the concrete and basin.

 

3. Swap out the bottle-trap for a flexible hose. It's supposed to be a P trap, but whatever. It was difficult to bend as the pvc drain hose is not standing straight. Had a washer, but leaked a little, so I had to add ptfe tape to stop the leak. The flexible pipe is much cleaner as the bottle-trap is more restrictive and always filled up with some icky stuff that won't drain away.

 

4. Finally, replaced the basin flat strainer with this little non-clogging strainer. The flat strainer will always filled with water that won't drain easily. Bcuz the water all tried to flow down at the same time. Water flow needs to displace air, and air is blocked. This design raise the strainer to allow air to flow out, so it drains much more easily. A simple device that we take for granted.

I watched many Youtube, the Americans are always using P trap on the drain. S trap is illegal there bcuz of some reverse suction problem, which I'm not entirely clear. The trap is needed to prevent foul gas from reverse entry into your house. The water trap prevents that. But local plumbers always use bottle-trap. I supposed it's a miniature version of a P trap.

I found the flexible pipe in Shopee. There are many Chinese "inventions" in the domestic appliance setting.  😄

New way to water-proof your tap instead of ptfe tape ?

@Fishy I would suggest you to turn off the water supply, and replace the tap. Before replacing the complete tap, check if it's just the washer you need replaced or complete tap. If you're from london, check in with these plumber london lads.

I have a mixer shower head that's slightly leaking (I'm assuming from the base of the shower head) when everything is off. It drips very slowly so we just put a small pail underneath. 

Would changing the O ring help?

Yes but get the right size right thickness for best fitment...

But check carefully first...sometimes it's due to over torque or degradation that cause hairline crack on the plastic part...

When everything is off there is no pressure to the hose. (I assume you are referring to that) 

So the leak may be from the mixer. Just need to change the core for a few bucks.

Remove the shower hose from the mixer to confirm that the leak is from the mixer and not residual water in the hose.

Its a hansgrohe thermostatic mixer. Haha not the usual mixer.

It's either the washer or the cartridge.

Checked this morning after seeing the rocks post. It's not the shower head o ring problem. So it's something to do with the shower cartridge. Zzz this shower is not even 3 years old. Ha 

Changing the cartridge is likely prohibitive in cost. 

The leak is very slow. So just live with it. We let it empty into a small pail. The overhead rain shower is fine.

Ali TB Shopee all should have if you know the size. Several type/sizes. Best to remove and measure. 

Not sure if the brands above have special sizes if not it is only a couple of dollars and should last for years. But buy one spare too!
