hello, new guy here. planning to get a second hand car but knows nuts about cars... i'm looking to get either a volks, swift sport or a cerato forte (sx or koup..)

i've been reading this thread and it seems like the safest way is to get a preowned from an AD. other than those that is listed below, any bros here knows of any trusted ADs? i know buying a second hand counts on largely luck - im planning to set aside 3k for repairs anyway..

Preowned:

Republic Auto

me and my family has bought many used cars for the past few years as we changes car frequently. so far so good no problems at all. and we have always manage to get a good deal for all of our car. heres my experience :

1 : go sgcarmart and short list 3 to 6 of the cheapest priced car that u are looking for.

2 : go down for viewing and before you place a deposit insists on STA checks. whatever problem there is with the car ask the dealer to fix up. and pls write all down in black and white in the agreement, if car got any accident or major fault then deposit must be fully refunded.

3 : within 6 months of taking over the car, if theres any problem with it call up the dealer and requst for a repair.

4 : if they refuse, go to case. you are under 6 months of lemon law warranty by the LAW. you will be able to get back most if not all of your repair bills. of course wear and tears are not included. ive tried and succeed in claiming my repair bills on 2 occasion.

always remember, theres no good dealers or bad dealers in singapore. theres only good cars or bad cars.

if a good dealer has trade in a used car from a customer that previously bought from a bad dealer does that mean that make the car automatically becomes problem free? and if the mileage was once adjusted by the bad dealer, will the good dealer be so kind to adjust it back from 50000km to 150000km if he finds out? i dont think so. remember you are buying a car from the sales person not the boss of the company. even if the salesman know all the bad things he will not tell you all of it cause he just wants to sell and earn his commission! im in the sales line and sometimes because of my monthly target, i have no choice but to hide some negative information of my products. or i will eat myself for the rest of next month...

all dealers no matter good or bad in singapore is governed by LAW! especially lemon LAW!

so no worry. if they wanna con u, call the police.

if they refuse to repair for u, go to case.

can u assured me that all the 100 cars from the good dealers is all problem free?

or can u assured me that all the 100 cars from the bad dealers all all faulty?

buying a used car is 50% luck. 50% research. even buying a new car can sometimes have problems too.

so remember, buy cheap! dont be a fool and pay extra $3k to $5k thinking oh expensive is better... take the extra money and give it to ur parent or children better than give to these con man dealers.

you can also pay $50-$200 and send the car to authorized agent workshop or normal workshop for checking after the STA check if you wan to be double sure. i personally will recommend optima werkz at serangoon, MBM wheel power and lim tan motor workshop both at sin ming auto care.

you can always send the car for a check with them from $60 onwards.

Hate to see con man dealers selling over priced cars to consumers and keep telling them oh this is a better car than the cheaper one!

but if you are buying a used ferarri, lamborgini or royce rolls. then the above method doesnt apply to u. cause over paying is certainly not a issue to u..

hope this helps!

good luck!

Any experiences with StarBright Auto Pte Ltd (Bukit Batok)?

Went there, saw a car, was willing to pay cash but they explained they make $2000 if we buy using Loan. So I was happy to explore Loan, especially if it resulted in a better deal for us. But when I added up the interest payments on top of the price they were asking, it meant we were losing money (paying more than what the asking price was). So I said I'd rather buy using cash only. But then they said they couldn't deal, even if we paid their full asking price. And the next day, they'd increased the price of the car on this website by $2000.

They also want to charge $500 'documentation fee'. Is is normal at other dealers?

Not sure whether to steer clear.... thanks

Now buyer market...... they can keep the car. There are many cars out there. Take your time to choose.

Thanks Alg

Asking price was 49800 when we first went to inspect the car. We tried to get for 48000 and explored the Loan option thinking it would lead to a better deal than cash (as in my previous post). It didn't so we walked away after he told us he couldn't do a deal with us.

The day after we walked away, he'd increased it to 51800 at this website.

A month has passed and I am not moving countries (it had been a possibility with my job promotion), so I got in touch again and offered 49000 cash. This is the chat we had on sms!

Me: Still interested if you want to sell. Will pay $49000 cash. No document fee $500.

Him: The price too far apart, maybe 1k off I can try talk to my manager

Me: Ok can you talk to them first please, then tell me best price. I discuss with my husband.

Him: U discuss with ur husband 1st u let me know

Me: He wants 49k. So if your boss won't accept please tell me best price.

Him: 50800

Me: He cannot accept that as the registration is $700 coming up end March. And you had advertised it for $49800 when we met you.

Him: Maybe 49800 I help you check

(Next day after - today - he calls me to check if I will pay more. I stick with 49k and tell him to talk to boss).

Him: At least 50800 my boss will let go

Me: It's more than the price you advertised it for?

Him: The car price we asking now is 53800. But my boss is willing to let go at 50800.

Me: How did the price increase?

Him: Increase but ours still the cheapest in the market

Me: We'll pass then. We're not at all comfortable dealing with your boss when he advertised it for one price and then after we show serious interest he jacks up the price. Unscrupulous!

Please pass on the feedback. We would have bought it.

Him: Price will increase n decrease as time fly. And if u could have decided that time u would have brought it. Is because of your undecisive.

Me: No way. haha. Car prices go down, not up. I know this because I have owned and sold cars before. I think you know it too. You and your boss are just dodgy car salesmans trying to rip us off because you think you can get away with it as we showed interest twice. For your information. I was offered a job in London which I needed to consider and that's why we didn't grab it first time (but now we are staying in Sg). YOU were the one who said "I cannot deal with you" when I showed you that taking a loan would lead to us paying more on the deal. You made us walk away. And this price-upping scam is already listed on sgcarmart so we know about it. And by the way, your dealership is listed under black list!

Him: Said whatever you want. Thanks

Me: I only speak the honest truth

Him: Whatever thanks

Unless the car, which u have been eyeing, is exotic, try other car dealers. I'm sure u can get a better deal than what Starbright could offer. Remember to send the car for inspection to ascertain that it is accident free. Write it down in the sales agreement that if it is not accident free, the deposit shall be refunded to u. Good luck Edited by Coolpica

2 years old and mileage only 5k? Surely this is a tell tale sign - maybe the car spent a lot of time in workshop previously? Could be previous owner knew the car got problem and sold it off quickly.

In Australia there is a website called car facts :

What sort of problems?

If it was a major problem, you could have feel it during a test drive and demand them to fix it before purchase...

Starbright is playing the price upping tricks. Don't fall for it, they are plain greedy.

I was wondering if sellers knew that when u track the car, they reflect the old price they had advertised.

Buyers being buyers will never want to offer a price that has been lower few days ago, even if it's cheapest in the market. Ego is at work.

Neutral Newbie

Hi guys, new to this forum and looking to buy my first used car.

An ad on sgcarmart caught my eye with this car dealer: Euro-Asia Motor

I did a search of this thread and the previous one and did not manage to find any good / bad experiences regarding this 2nd hand car dealer.

Any fellow forum members here that have patronized Euro-Asia Motor before care to share their experience, good or bad?

Thanks guys, any help would be very much appreciated.

Cheers! [:)]

Neutral Newbie

I really hope that I came across this thread before making my purchase. To cut a long story short, i make my purchase of a 2007 honda edix from GV CREDIT taken in by the "low" interest of 1.99%. Everything was fine until I was slap with a $500 dollar admin fee to take up their loan after i already sign and sold my old mazda 3 for trade in to them. Facing with no car as replacement and after doing a simple calc, the interest rate + admin fee is ard the same as all other loan out there, i just sign and get my car to avoid the trouble.

I found out that GV credit clear my previous car loan before the loan for my purchase car is approved.. so what if my loan is rejected? I only know when OCBC bank sent me the letter (the date don't match, i haven't sign the paper for my new loan before that day), i thought they will only submit to redeem the loan AFTER other paper works is done! They just let me sign the all the papers saying it is more convenience that i dun need go to their office one more time.

I also when i ask them about the warranty and whether the car is modify for LTA inspection and if it is accident free, they assure me that their workshop have check and make sure 100% OK, will not be any issue.. and if anything wrong, there are 6 mth warranty.

Here is the sad part, when i go vicom for inspection, they fail my car for having a exhaust pipe that have 3 wielding marks and the size of the pipe is NOT even consistent (wield up to a smaller piper in the middle" and the silencer is missing. When i get back to them for warranty to fix it, they just say LTA rule do not apply to the warranty and denied all the promise they make about no issue with LTA and it is the "previous" owner faults among others stupid excuse. Now they just keep delaying giving an answer.....

how much to change a edix exhaust pipe in SG? :'(

Please done buy from them at all, 100% loan and super low interest rate is all lies, i paid the same loan interest and the same deposit that i can get everywhere in the market without me signing to sell my car before anything is confirmed.

I have learned the hard way, please be careful

Sorry to hear about your bad experience.

You can try asking your workshop while servicing to look out for the stock exhaust though I think with the model being less than 10yrs old and relatively low number locally, it will be hard to find.

One way is to find exhaust specialist shops that will touch up the exhaust.

Another is to just drive normally and ask workshop for help when it is time for the inspection.
