Vulcann 6th Gear January 30, 2013 Share January 30, 2013 Know there are many amazing MCF bros taking on jobs as undertakers, cleaners, professional/amateur trolls, etc [laugh] but do you really want your children, if any, to follow your footsteps? Β I'll start. Β I was trained to be a civil engineer but no longer practicing it (I hope!!!) though still in the same industry and I will [smash] beat the crap out of my kiddos if they are to tell me one day they would like to be engineers. Bros in this line will know how hard it is to be one [:(] Β Your views? β‘ Advertisement

WTF 4th Gear January 30, 2013 Share January 30, 2013 I'm in engineering as well and for me, I'll advise them not to follow my footsteps. Β Perhaps joining politics will be more lucrative and show them the salary of our mini-stars........
Kangadrool Supersonic January 30, 2013 Share January 30, 2013 Study engineering and science is OK one as long as one has the aptitude and interest. Engineering and science is so versatile that you can switch to almost any other jobs with ease unlike those softer options. Β Well, making engineering a career is another different matter. Tarquin 1st Gear January 30, 2013 Share January 30, 2013 Haha...seems most posts regret being in the engineering career..I'm engineering also R&D but if my kids wish to follow (my 6 yr old boy quite keen but child talk only..) it's up to them...I don't want to push anything on them since by that time they'll be grown up and can think for themselves...I'll just try to be there for advice when the time comes... Β I just want to enjoy them young first...later when they grow up (which is quite fast)..I'll just be the "old man" on the side so want to enjoy them now and not think so much.. Engineering and science is so versatile that you can switch to almost any other jobs with ease unlike those softer options. Β Well, making engineering a career is another different matter. Β This I agree - trained as an engineer, worked as an engineer and finally 6 years no engineering. Back in the 1980s and 1990s, government wanted to build up a pool of engineers and support staff to support the MNCs' manufacturing activities so engineers were produced by the dozens. When manufacturing started moving offshores in 2000s, many were left behind as relics of an illustrious past. I was 1 of them. Β Β
