I hope I would've migrated or the citizens would've voted out the incumbent. Rightly said in numerous threads and Facebook posts, Enough is Enough. Givechance 1st Gear January 31, 2013 Share January 31, 2013 (edited) With more population, it's a no brainer that the demand for COE will rise. Many rich PR and new citizens will want to own cars, thus driving up the demand greatly. Not only that, surely the Taxi fleet will also have to increase to cater to more population. Next will be the goods and devlivery trucks, as more new businesses and shop needed to cater to the huge population. All these will 101% keeps the COE demand high till 2030! No need hindsight or foresight also will know the COE prices can only keep going up and up. Will COE be ever demolished? NEVER. Will distance based GPS replace COE? In your dream. COE will likely still co-exist with distance based charges......double wammy! Edited January 31, 2013 by Givechance
Givechance 1st Gear January 31, 2013 Share January 31, 2013 IIRC, about 1M cars, bikes and goods vehicles etc. on the road today. How much of our population can afford $500,000 COE for the 1M vehicles to drive the premium up to those levels ? If most people are rational, most likely it will hover around $100k. But there will always be super rich who own more than 2 or 3 cars -- how many of these around ? Do not discount those richie rich new PR and newly instant citizens. There are many of such low key people, like MaChi, or that fackbook guy Severin, jim roger for example.
Baphomet 3rd Gear January 31, 2013 Share January 31, 2013 i don't think will go beyond 200k... haiz...priced out liao.. still have 6 years+ to drive... by then hope motorcycle COE remains reasonable.. I will never go public.
Watwheels Supersonic January 31, 2013 Share January 31, 2013 (edited) Those numbers doesn't make sense even for the future. How are businesses going to operate at such climate? Imagine the inflation that comes with it. Probably another system will take over COE. Hopefully by dan ppl work from their homes as technology advances. Everything needed will be within walking distance. Edited January 31, 2013 by Watwheels

COE will likely still co-exist with distance based charges......double wammy! The population roadmap is mainly to counter our aging population. With the aging population, there is a group of existing local car owners who will exit car ownership and less number of new local car owners. So yes the number of non-local owners will drop but it is in tandem with the less number of locals overall due to low fertility rate. I don't think the number of shops will increase by that much to cater to the increased population. The current number of shops still have capacity to sell more. New shops will likely be clustered in town centres. In fact you can say with the same number of commercial vehicles, suppliers now have more shops they can supply to thus reducing their cost (economies of scale). As for taxis, if they spend more time fetching passengers, the same number of taxis now can fetch many more people and don't forget the enhanced rail network (breakdowns notwithstanding). Voodooman Supersonic January 31, 2013 Share January 31, 2013 With workforce population increasing by around 2% a year and COE growth at 0.5% per year, only way for COE to go is up. I reckon it will be around around 350k in 2030, about 180k in today's money as inflation will be high at around 4% a year with the limited resources amid arising population. More likely it will be a usage based system then. I just hope the promised world class transport system will really be world class by then. I am going to miss my regular road trips up north, need to upgrade my skills to become a table wiper.
