Tyre puncture...

Sigh [:(] got screw into the back tyre. Worst part, got the new tyres only couple of weeks ago. The screw is about a 1 cm, just pulled the screw out and need to wait until tomorrow to see whether the tyre is leaking or not.

Never pull out the nail or screw until you are at the workshop. Nail or screw can slow down the leak to buy you some time to reach the workshop.

Just spray some soapy water over the area to check for leak.

I sure hope this doesn't happen often enough for your advice to be used.

Though I would struggle not to pull a knife out of myself there are many speed bumps from my house to the nearest hospital and every bump will cut more organs and cause further loss of HP/ blood/ vitality. [:p]

Same reason never pull out a knife when stabbed.

Pull it out and blood will spurt out..Let the doc at A&E will take care of it.

Shouldn't pull out if the tire does not seems to be leaking. Drive slowly to the nearest tire shop and let them pull it out, then patch it.

From my experience, don't drive if you know there is a nail stuck into the tyre.

The other time it happened to me, the nail scrapped the tyre walls and the tyre tiam was only >10mins away from my home (roughly 2km, including U-Turn). In the end, what could have been a patch job, became a change to new tyre.

My suggestion is to change to spare or worst come to worst - tow.

Just don't drive on a nail punctured tyre.

hi all,

one of my tyre keeps on getting flat from slow leaks yet when I bring to tyre shop they couldn't detect a leak or a nail or puncture of sorts. the tyre shop uses the method of poring water over the tyre. is there tyre shop (especially around woodlands or yishun area or Alexandra area) that can do more comprehensive checks or does it mean the inner lining of the tyre is gone?

You can DIY yourself with some soapy water. However only limit to certain area.

Most tyre shops have a bathtub behind their shops. They removed your tyre and dump it into the tub to check for leak.

Yours only 1..

Yesterday when I sold my rim and tire to another buyer in Malaysia. The workshop told me I got 3 in one of the tire..

Watched him pull them, was fun as none of them is critical or deep enough to puncture..

Heng.. shortly after, the buyer came and take his newly purchase.

This is why I always prefer thicker profile tyre.

Almost a week now since I pulled out the nail, the tyre is not leaking [bounce2] . Seems to hold the air, but, psychologically I had a feeling like the car was dragging one side. The screw was about a 12 mm length, not sure how thick the rubber of the new tyre will be. By the way, My car is on 185\60\14.

You are fine lah, mine profile at 50.. also nothing serious.

You just monitor the psi, if bad, go any tire shop to do the water test. The bubble will tells u if you have a leakage

Could it be the valve is faulty (leaking) ?

Sometimes the nail is so small that a mechanic can't detect it...so it is better you try another tyre shop to check it again.

yep, that's my fear as well.

the leak seems to be slow. last about 1 week before the deflation becomes visible. certainly going to try another tyre shop with more comprehensive check. this one only pour water bit by bit and if it is not a fast leak one can hardly see.

prefer to go to one where they immerse the tyre into water entirely. any around woodlands area or Alexandra area to recommend?

When was the last time you changed the tyre valve?

That time one of my tyre also got a small nail (about 2cm) and it was loosing air much more than the other 3 tyres. I couldn't find the nail but suspect something is wrong. So went to my regular tyre shop to check....lucky the mechanic could spot the nail, pull it out and patch it up.

Sorry, not sure which tyre shop now uses those water tub also. Maybe you can call up a few in the Woodlands/Alexandra area and ask them if they have the tub. If have then go that shop.
