To Soya> If you look into details of MB engine (old model), they are very conservative in their design & technology. MB is exception.

Just like Toyota being conversative in the technology be proven before pushing to the market.

However, MB has started to learn the business strategy of BMW. Making customer to pay for the repair and maintenance too.

This shall be reviewed next few years reliability on the new MB car.

I currently own a Honda and previously owned Toyotas as well.

Whilst not trying to be pro-Japs, these cars have hardly gave me any problems [thumbsup]

I'm tempted to upgrade to Contis if I have the chance but reading this makes me think twice.

My colleague who owns an Audi A4 Avant told be that his car drinks engine oil!!

Has to top-up every now and then!! He also owoned a Honda before and remarked that it was much easier to upkeep the Honda but then again he has no regrets as he says the feel of an Audi is different compared

to a Jap! To each his own I suppose.

an occasional bit of extra engine oil for better driving pleasure? sounds like a damn good trade-off to me.

If its so lousy, kiasu and kiasee Singaporeans, would not be flocking to these German cars for the past few years.

I would like to own a German car myself, because in Singapore context....the cars are as reliable as Japs/Koreans ones.

the sample size for SG cars is too small to give an accurate picture..so its not a good yardstick

how come mitsubishi so low one?

Cos most of the Mitsubishis sold there are the Evolutions? [laugh]

Turbo engine = more gian to whack = higher failure rate...?

Cos they included Proton into the study. [laugh][laugh]

Sorry to offend anyone, just couldn't resist... (I personally like Proton)

Maybe those who buy German cars, are more demanding about their cars, and likely to complain about it more often.

Something like, the engine is noisy, is subjective because of the super quite cabin design which allows the driver to 'hear' more of the engine. Whereas a cheaper non-German cars may have noisy cabins, that mask the sound and engine refinement disturbances, etc.

Another false issue is that German cars has more engine sensors, and more willing to show the 'triangle engine warning' symbol for minor issues. Fuel quality can be a major factor in many countries, causing engine failures.

This could attribute to the perception of German car engines are lousy.

"Meng Meng" is white and you want to argue that it is black. [sweatdrop] A super quiet cabin should not hear the nosiy engine. You got everything opposite leh. [confused]

Fiat not bad leh. I drove a Fiat Punto in my 4 months in England, never have me the slightness of problem.

I do not know or heard about Audi engine drink engine oil part. Maybe its due to the hot climate in Singapore, & oil evaropate faster, or something. My TFSi engine only required engine change every 30,000km or every 2 years. I do top up a bit of engine old once, when I changed a new set of wheels. The mechanic is very on the ball, & help me check this check that, & he commented the oil level is low, so I said ok. But certainly its not every now & then need to top up.

I dunno man, that article is too vague. Warranty Direct is a third party warranty provider who also cover used cars, even after the factory warranty expires. There are too many variables (regular checks by owners, where the car is maintained, type of maintenance) and too much unknown information (age and mileage range of cars in the stats).

When is the last time anyone heard of "engine failure" is a new or relatively new car? Although the way some people treat their cars, i am not suprised at the accelerated wear. One guy in my office carpark literally starts his new E-class merc, puts it in D, disengages the handbrake and accelerates off within 3 seconds. Makes me wince everytime i see it.

How many people actually check their fluid levels regularly? Seems that alot of people expect their 100,000+km engines to burn the same amount of oil as when new.

I beg to differ! Driven so many different cars made me realize tat japs can made good, reliable n luxury cars too. One fine example is Lexus. I had 2 since. Tried several conti like Merc, Beemer, Maserati etc... But none is s good s Lexus. Currently driving Jaguar but the gear shift is abrupt. Not s smooth s Lexus. However Porsche is a good car which I must add. Many of my friends who owns conti cars like VW, Audi, Peugeot etc. said tat the car gives problem after a while n their break down rate is much faster!

i had been driving for 15 yrs. Gone through 2 conti and 2 jap. I will never buy another conti ever. My current ride a honda FN2 although made in england, it had gone through 2 accidents in its 5.5 years, still going on strong.

Honda best! All i want is a problem free car.

Bro,

You may also want to consider using a Japanese Keyboard.

The reliablity of your keyboard is suspicous, as lot of letters are missing in your reply. [:p]
