In Asia, Korea rate is also scary, many are youngster and many due to depression [:(] Countries with highest suicide rates India: With the growing number of farmer suicides, India has one of the world's highest suicide rates with an average of 10.4 suicides per 100,000 people, according to a World Health Organization report. However, a study by the Lancet medical journal reveals that the suicide rate in India is the highest in the 15-29 age group. It further reveals that despondency due to under-achievement and loneliness in a vastly changing Indian society are some of the reasons for the high mortality due to suicides among the Indian youth. Greenland: Greenland, the world's largest island nation located in North America, is also the country with world's highest suicide rate. According to statistics, in 2010 there were 108 suicides per 100,000 people per year in Greenland. The majority of Greenlanders who kill themselves mainly comprise of the youngsters. A study says depression, loneliness and also suicide as a fashion statement are the reasons for the high number of suicide rates among the teenagers. South Korea: South Korea, one of the most developed countries in Asia, has the highest suicide rate in the developed world. It has had an alarming rise in the suicide rate in the recent years with a rate of 33.8 suicides per 100,000 people. A study reveals that intense pressure for academic and career excellence are primary motivations for youngsters in the Asian country to give up their lives. Lithuania: Lithuania's suicide rates doubled in last ten years with a rate of 31.5 suicides per 100, 000 people. National psychiatrists cite uncertainty and unpredictability of the nation's economic situation as the main reasons for the high suicide rate. Many people feel the transition from soviet times to the first phase of capitalism has proved traumatic for many people in the country, motivating them to the extreme step of committing suicide. Guyana: Guyana, a tiny South American country, has the highest suicide rate in the continent with a rate of 26.4 suicides per 100,000 people every year. According to a government study, suicide is the leading cause of death among the country's youth aged 15-24. The study cites depression, domestic disputes and distress over health problems as major factors leading to the high suicide rate in the Caribbean nation. Kazakhstan: Kazakhstan, the largest landlocked country in the world is plagued, has been plagued by a suicide epidemic (25.6 suicides per 100,000 people per year) in the recent years. The mortality among the youth due to suicide is on the rise with a 23 % increase in the number of suicides among the country's youth between a period of 1999 and 2008, according to official statistics. This notoriety led to a 'camel sacrificing' ceremony in the country last year at the behest of elders in a village in a bid to stop the high rate of suicides in the country. Belarus: Belarus, a landlocked country in Eastern Europe, lost a quarter of its population during the World War ll. With a rate of 25.3 suicides per 100,000 people per year, Belarus has a high mortality rate due to suicides. According to studies, alcoholism has been identified as a single major contributor to the high suicide rate. China: China has made huge strides in world economy in past few decades but it has suffered on the social front. With a suicide rate of 22.23 per 100,000 people per year, the mortality in China due to suicides is one of the highest in the world. The country's disease control centre mentions that suicide is the highest among the youngsters in the age group between 15 and 34. According to the Chinese media reports, extreme academic pressure and employment have been the primary reasons behind the Chinese youth ending their lives. Slovenia: Known for its geographical diversity, Slovenia faces a major problem in form of its high suicide rates with a rate of 22 suicides per 100,000 people per year. According to officials, the high suicide rate has been seen mostly among the elderly population of the country. Biological reasons like depression, schizophrenia, alcohol related and other mental disorders are some of the causes identified for the high mortality due to suicides in the Central European nation. Hungary: Situated in the Central Europe, Hungary is one of the major tourist destinations of the world. Despite being a high-income economy, Hungary suffers a high rate of suicide rate with 21.7 suicides per 100,000 people per year. Social commentators in the country opine that with a history of many eminent public personalities committing suicides in Hungary's history due to various reasons, suicide has became a popular phenomenon amongst the youth. Japan: Japan is one of the most developed and prosperous nations of the world. However, the suicide statistics of the Asian country remains gloomy with a suicide rate of 21.7 per 100,000 people per year.
