Definitely right, why should the driver care about the sound since we diesel drivers can't hear it inside the car.
Flyerking 3rd Gear April 28, 2014 Share April 28, 2014 Don''t know why there are people who criticize so much about diesel cars. I drove M113s, both sounds nice to me. :) They dint know that most developed economies in the West have 60% or more diesel cars on the road ma. This shows Singapore is still under developing status I cant stress enough on the turbo-charged diesel after tuning or mods. It gives the best improvement out of all the different type of engines. Its the first time I am driving a > 500nm car and the acceleration in the NS highway is shocking. Say from 60km/hour to 180km/hour, the ability to reach max speed in that short instance will blow you away. Its a wonderful experience. I have tried 3.5l Toyota cars on the same highway but the torque just isn't there.
Eugn86 3rd Gear April 29, 2014 Share April 29, 2014 But in the US it is different with diesel private cars still forming a minority. R u saying US is still developing?
Spyder79 3rd Gear April 29, 2014 Share April 29, 2014 torque is the main different btw diesel n petrol.
Wolfverine Twincharged April 29, 2014 Share April 29, 2014 The diesel clank is very muted these days espcially for a few of the conti makes like Porsche and VW/Audi which I have tested personnally. In my opinion, I will definitely go for a diesel MPV/SUV as the torque will be very helpful in moving the mass around - try the Cayenne diesel to believe it! However, if it is for a car that one deem to be a "sports car", I will not go for the diesel model. The engine/exhaust note that one would have expected from a "sports car" is less pronounced in a diesel compared to petrol. Case in point is the Macan S petrol vs. diesel. The exhaust note on a petrol is music to the ears compared to the diesel .

This applies to my V6 diesel too.

Spyder79 3rd Gear May 1, 2014 Share May 1, 2014 Not many can afford the clatter sound think of the long run..... price range is around 160k onward. there r so many CAT B buyers sure they can afford. just that they are not be educate or understand how diesel works. all they can think of it , sound like teksi and very no face value.,,,, misconception ↡ Advertisement
