Hi guys, pls advise. My car is toyota altis 2008 model. Recently, my car having issue of cranking but couldn't power up. When I twist the key, it went tsk tsk tsk tsk tsk tsk. But just couldn't power up. Let it rest, then try again. It still couldn't start up. I don't think is battery problem as subsequently it manage to fire up. Also couldn't be fuel filter cause I just change 20k km again. Please share if you also face the same issue. Thanks.

Yes if can crank then it is not a battery or starter issue. Do check the fuel line, filter, plugs etc etc. Please dun over crank untill battery flat, then it will become a battery issue as well.

Your starter solenoid is not acting up. Either there the live wire to the solenoid has a loose connection or the solenoid switch is faulty

What is a starter solenoid? Is it expensive to replace?

why you think it is not your battery?

90% is weak battery.

It could be, the car failed to charge the battery when it is moving.

Last time old car, there is a device call fuel pump. Not sure new car has or not. If yes, maybe the fuel pump is not working.

Why I confirmed is not pump issue. Cause I just changed. New altis fuel filter and fuel pump is one piece. Confirmed not battery also because I just did a load test at Borneo. They told me is my immobiliser. The chip is not connecting well with the car itself. Therefore, car can't start. Replace FOC for me. Ask me monitor and go back if same issue.

My battery is 2.5 years and is still strong. Borneo did ask me to change, cost 125 inclusive of labour. I told them next servicing I'll change. My company fleet are new and old toyota altis. Weak battery symptom for Toyota is sudden dimming of interior light when engine is running. Cranking took longer than usual. When twisting the key, optitron light went off.

If your sound is those cranking but it jus wont start most likely is fuel problem...u pump jb petrol often?

Here is the details. Most auto electrician should be able to bypass the faulty solenoid and repalce with a standalone unit.post-272-1366443767_thumb.jpg

Turbocharged

Mine also same problem as thread stater. Sometimes difficulty in starting 1 to 2 times out of 10. Changed battery and spark plug still the same issue.

TS starter motor is not getting the direct 12volt heavy current supply from the battery due to poor solenoid contacts - that where the tsk tsk sound comes from.

Do your starter motor managed to crank the engine? if yes , the cause can be due to slow motor turning - the cause is normally due to weak battery. But since you have replace the battery and spark plugs, the possible causes maybe due to either engine timing setting or poorly set/replaced timing belt.

My one broke down recently and I got it change at borneo. Within 1 year, it broke down again thus replace FOC.
