I bought a car from a PI. The car was delivered with the ABS/VSA unit spoilt. They promised to fixed it but here is what happened

Around 2 weeks ago

Left my car at PI and was supposed to fixed the ABS module the same day (at an unknown workshop). But after 2 days the car was not even worked on and I was pissed requested the PI to tell me the workshop name. I went to the workshop immediately and pick my car up as I needed the car (the mechanic even tell me to

- I am not goining back to the unknown workshop

-since your appointed workshop as stated in the sales agreement is MBM I will only go back there

after some c--k and bull story I said I will go to CASE to get a third opinion. The manager said he will check with his directors and let me know on Monday

can I claim this repair from the PI, since they have sold me a half baked car.

 

Let me answer you this way.

 

In the US, where someone can sue McDee's over how hot their coffee is, and win - your case may actually see the inside of a courtroom. No guarantee it'll win.

 

In Singapore, it'll be laughed out of court.

 

As others have mentioned, you should either have driven with more care, or not driven the car at all, knowing that it's faulty.

 

And, not to belabour the point, but this is another cautionary tale against "going PI".

I wouldn't say totally useless. Car problem is sometimes not foreseeable. It's just that the system is not perfect.

 

You buy anything used, you cannot expect it to be like new. If new car like Very Worrisome got problem, cannot guarantee used car to be problem free.

You knew there is a problem with the car right? You knew that they have not fixed it but you drove it off cuz you needed a car right? Why didn't you drive with a bigger gap from the front car since you knew that the ABS is faulty?

 

IMO its your fault you go into an accident since you already knew there is a problem with the ABS and still insisted on driving it. Its not like you did not know that there is a problem with the ABS or they force you to drive it even though there is a problem.

IMO with the new lemon law kicked in some used car dealers are dragging their feet. They continue not to make sure that the quality of the used car is in good working condition. They just take in the car "as is" and sell it off "as is". Their mentality is why they bother with the used car condition coz they are just the middle-man. It's not wrong lah but I feel they can do better.

Even when driving a car in perfect condition, never encounter anyone say ABS fault when rear end others. I think you would be very lucky if they even honour the initial fix as promised now that you met with an accident.

My grandparents drove many car without ABS and without any accidents for many years.

 

My parents also drove many car without ABS and no issues for many years.

 

Me too, drove quite a few cars without ABS and also no issue.

 

If you know you are driving a half baked car, you should have drove it with a half baked speed.

I didn't know ABS will cause ineffective brakes.

abs does not make the car stop faster. sometimes, no instead, usually is slightly longer braking distance.

if u hit straight with abs u would have hit the other car harder :) joking but there is some facts in it.

a faulty ABS controller/module may actually lead to "stuck" valves - stuck open or closed. That's what happened on my prev ride. I was advised by a trusted workshop to remove the spoilt ABS module until a replacement was sourced.

Maybe now they won't even solve your ABS problem already since you got into an accident. They can just say ur ABS fault is due to the accident.
