The_Bear Turbocharged August 2, 2013 Share August 2, 2013 My friend is telling me about how the pump fail to auto stop when he is filling up petrol causing the petrol to overfill. He thinks it is a problem with his car. I think its the problem with the nozzle at the pump. It had only happened once and after that, he only fills to around 80% based on his estimation. Can someone shed some light on this? Car in question is a Nissan Latio. ↡ Advertisement

I have no problem with caltex on my car for more than 10 years, hence if there is no problem with the nozzle, then it could be the car or the way the nozzle was insert? Yeobh 4th Gear August 3, 2013 Share August 3, 2013 The pump cut off triggering system is not correctly set or it's faulty.
Watwheels Supersonic August 3, 2013 Share August 3, 2013 We do not know for sure how your friend was doing it. Was he holding on to the pump nozzle or was it inserted into the inlet? If he was holding the tip of nozzle near the edge of the inlet of course it's not going to "auto stop".

Kangadrool Supersonic August 3, 2013 Share August 3, 2013 Nothing to do with car petrol tank opening. It's the nozzle's fault. I pump into motorbike's tank with much wider opening also no problem for the pump to trigger auto stop.
Jansonchua 2nd Gear August 3, 2013 Share August 3, 2013 I pump once into a Vios and it started to overflow. Aiya ,,,, heart pain for the wasted petrol. I think old Vios (2005) not suitable for force feeding!

Opel17 6th Gear August 3, 2013 Share August 3, 2013 Another type of nozzle failure - premature auto-stop when the petrol tank is not yet full. Was at Petronas Gelang Patah heading back SG, wanted to top up 1/2 tank to full tank. After filling up about 11 liters, the nozzle prematurely auto-stop. Squeezed the lever to check and filling continued into total about 30 liters. Therefore, need to squeeze the lever 2nd time to check.
Camrysfa Turbocharged August 3, 2013 Share August 3, 2013 i have never pump petrol myself . But I think, attendant inserts the nozzles all the way in. The pumping auto off and then the attendant use manual sqeeze to complete the filling.
