You put it better than me in my earlier post.

There are options:

- play nice attack but cannot break bus and risk counter attack & lose grip on being champion

- play negative and play for a draw & retain hold on being champion

No right or wrong. Style or result more important.

We know JM's preference.

That's why soccer can have different results when played with different tactics and different opponents.

A few weeks ago, when chelski played palace, chelski was dominating possession and kept pounding palace box... but not to much avail. Palace defended fantastically, and once in a while when they attacked, chelski were pegged back badly cos too many players committed to attacking. Finally JT did a own goal which cost them 3 pts...

In that match, Mou must be feeling the same as BR... and last match, when Azi slipped and allowed Sunderland to steal the ball and finally got the penalty which cost them 2 pts, that's how things played out... sigh...

i hope it's city's turn to get shock next.

Now match lost, alot of posters saying should have been more defensive, hold out for draw etc. This all on benefit of hindsight.

Before the match, no one mentioned this.

As some posters have rightfully mentioned, Pool don't have the players to play defensively so it would have been futile to attempt to do so.

Anyway all is not lost, even Chelsea have a chance albeit small.

May the best team win!!!

Yes Pool may not have the player to play defensively well, but given that Chelsea is playing for a draw, it might not be difficult to get one point if pool had played defensively. My point is you have to see the situation.

i am happy with how the season had panned out so far....although in my heart, i wished that we could still control our destiny.

i just hope that this season will really be the platform for more years to come.....i really dread the thought that we are capable of doing cha-cha....brilliant one season and then taking 2 steps back next season

Suso scores a wonderful freekick winning goal for Almeria vs Espanyol over the weekend...should recall him back as well as Borini and Wisdom to strengthen the squad...

http://www.liverpool-redarmy.com/lfc-videos/item/3233-video-suso-scored-a-great-free-kick-winner-for-almeria.html

Yes, Suso should come back after 1 year away gaining valuable experience :)

We need some midfielders, sort of like Yaya.... strong in everything :)

Hmm... how much do we have? $60 mil? Wonder can buy how many players ....

Should be able to get more if Reina, Agger, Johnson and Aspas are offloaded...

Only hope that we dun get sub standard players...coz usually players will perform well during the WC tournament, but after they play in the league...kns.. -_-

Even when Everton was ahead of Arsenal to finish top 4, majority of the Everton fans polled said they rather lose out on the top 4 than to help Pool to the title. Now that they are behind and with Arsenal having easier run in, would they still want to fight their lives for Pool?

Well, stranger things had happened, DREAM ON.....

Then its a good thing for us that Everton field professional footballers that

don't like to lose and want to play in the CL to test themselves against the best.

If fans played for Everton then maybe they will let City walk all over them.

But there again Everton fans have always been a bunch of softies

and thats why they call themselves toffees.

I'm sorry to say that I dislike Everton especially in the 80s due to Lineker. nbz, forever a thorn in pool's side. [rifle]

well like J22 said, that one miscontrolled ball changed the game.

It could have well turned out to be 0-0 if not for that 47th min blunder.

Football is like that, the strangest things always happen.

Gearrad slips in one of our most important matches

or a beach ball gets thrown on the field.

There again something like this could always happen to City.

Own goal to gift a draw to Everton or Bentake has a stormer and scores against City

or West Ham fans scream for Fat Sam to be sacked and he told Carroll to go all

out to attack and Carroll scores the winner against City the goal made by Downing.

Stranger things could happen.

:D

Or the midget Joe Cole wins the header against Yaya Toure and scores the winner against City?

I like all the scenarios that you have stated :)

If all happen, then Man C will lose all its 3 matches.... Woohoo :)

Haha! all 3? [thumbsup]

I was just hoping only 1 to come thru and we win our last 2 matches.

sigh... kept quiet whole night after match and couldn't sleep till 3 am...

i guess that's the prob when hopes are raised, and we're so close to the finish line with all things falling in place... then suddenly, bubble burst.

Chelski is chelski, and JM is indeed special. The one who perfected boring but effective soccer. Go to him if you want result, albeit maybe not very exciting. But ultimately, this will earn more prize money than let's say, a team that plays very attacking minded style, but kept losing. Cardiff i think attacks quite well, but they are in relegation fight for a reason.

Of all of BR's success, it's ultimately still early days for him a top club, facing different types of pressure and opponents under trying circumstances all the time - and with a thin squad at that. He doesn't have very good personnel in different positions and cannot anyhow change drastically, except in changing from diamond midfield to more attackers, etc.

Benitez, who had more experience, could field a defensive team in the past, and get the whole team to defend with their hearts and get a draw. They did it against chelski after Garcia's goal, and did it against Milan in 2005 after the equalising third goal. If we ask Rogers to do that now, i suspect he might not be able to pull it off, yet.

Now the team is attack-focused, but when faced with a Great Wall type of team, and try as they might, the likes of LS, DS, PC, RS, all cannot penetrate, they will lose steam and lose heart, hence the performance last night. After committing so many players forward in search of equaliser, it was always dangerous that we might lose the ball and concede further, which was exactly what happened...

The current team has punched above their weight for the current campaign. It is necessary to find players who can improve the starting 11. It would be good if we can get players who can attack and defend equally well, is tall and fast, and can shoot from distance.

SG when trying to make up for the mistake, half way through the second half, started shooting from outside the box. After trying without success to dribble and create openings, this was the right thing to do. We had also seen Swartzer spilled the ball against sunderland, so it was not a bad idea to try long shots. The problem was that currently in the team, noone can shoot with threat much from outside the box. Even Schrulle had one long shot that was close and meanacing. SG and LS all shot straight at goalie or tamely... If we had more players who can shoot with power and accuracy, not only would it enhance chances of a long shot goal, it is also very likely that any wicked deflection in the way would end up in goal... SG of 2003-2010 would have been a good bet for this, but alas... time is unforgiving...

Now can only hope, City don't be so greedy - drop some points since you already have the league cup...

Best is we win our last 2 matches and City is leading 2-1 against West Ham.

5 mins of extra time and Joe Cole scores from a header outjumping Big Yaya Payaya.

:D

Then all the TV screens goes blank in the last 20 mins and we know West Ham score when friends from other countries call us to inform us.

This one not so strange cos happen before.

:D

The thing is Chelsea's tactics revolved around keeping it tight defensively and capitalizing on breakaways or mistakes.

You make your own luck...
