i would say ... it's the CAR

Button become 1-time champion ... because of the car

Vettel become 4-times champion ... the car definitely give him a HUGE advantage

how come Vettel lose this year ... he has been driving fantastically for 4 years ... it's the car

Hamilton can drive ... but without the CAR ... he cannot win race after race

Just look at the race where Nico outbrake at 1st corner and drop to almost tail end and yet can finished No. 2 at podium (i know he used 1 set of tyres only)

the CAR play at least 70-80% advantage ... driver only capatalise on the car competitiveness

Look at Daniel Riccardo ... without a good car ... when he was in Red Bull second team ... he where got go up podium ...

same driver ... different car

another good example is Bottas ... without a good car ... he where got chance to go up podium

did Bottas suddenly drive better than the champion like Alonso, Vettel, Kimi, etc?

alonso ... i would concur he is an excellent driver ... 5 years in ferrari ... and yet cannot win ...

good car + good driver = highly likely to win

good car + ok ok driver = got chance to win

lousy car + good driver = not likely to win

CAR contributes 70-80% of the winning chances ...

Some say its the car..

But then having said that, there were times in 2012 when Button seemed lost at sea while Hamilton was taking the car to P1 (though Ham did retire THREE times while in the lead) but i think SkyF1 has presented quite a good comparison..

It's harsh but I'd say McLaren paid the price in 2013/2014 for not having a tier 1 driver.

Let's see how they go in 2015 with ALO around.

IMO, Button is too safe a driver ie he doesn't take risks. To win, he needs others to make mistakes or he has a superior car. It is precisely cos both these 2 factors were missing over the last few years and that's why he was never in contention.

That said, he is still useful as he's experienced and will be able to give valuable feedback esp with a new Engine partner in Honda next season.

The real racers are Hamilton, Alonso, Raikkonen and to a lesser extent Vettel.

Upcoming ones would be Ricciardo, Grosjean, Bottas IMO

It's funny ppl just look at individual drivers & numbers alone.

It's still a team effort. Usually teams keep an experienced driver to give them the valuable car's feedback to improve on it and the other driver to be out there to collect as many points as possible. The car doesn't improve itself alone. It requires the driver's feedback to the engineers who doesn't or don't get to drive the car. Not all drivers know how to give feedback, some only know how to drive fast. Playing car's technology catch up is no overnight thing. The ever changing rules makes it very challenging.

that's why i conclude that car contribute 70% of the winning chances

yes, feedback from the driver is valuable and critical

but if the team cannot improve the car ... no amount of feedback can make the team/driver win

just look at alonso in ferrari for 5 years ... ferrari car cannot make it for 5 years ...

I dun look at it this way. There are just too many factors that contribute to winning the championship. Luck plays a part as well. There's no sure win for teams like Ferrari.
