Nissan Qashqai 2014

My Qashqai 2.0 FC is about 12.1-12.2. I drive about 80% expressway hence the FC is better.

I had the bad luck of having my windscreen cracked (about 10 cm long) by a flying stone just before X'mas eve and I went down to Tan Chong Toa Payoh to get it replaced. They initially told me they had the replacement part on Saturday but called me again that afternoon saying the windscreen part they had didn't come with the rain sensor so could not fit onto my vehicle.

I went down to collect my vehicle and realised my original windscreen now had a crack from the point of impact just below the wipers in the centre stretching across the entire windscreen to the passenger side! They realised it was a wrong part indented (the 1.2 Qashqai windscreen without rain sensor) and yet went ahead to remove my original windscreen to see if it could be replaced causing further cracks in the windscreen. They offered for me to leave my 4 month old car at their workshop for 2 months while waiting for the part to come from Japan and giving me a replacement vehicle.

I must say TC after sales service sucks big time. It's not the first time I or my family has encountered problems with their after sales department...

Btw I installed the autofold mirror module on my last servicing. For those interested can ask to install at $85. Think they are using the old q10 module cos I overheard the technicians that they needed to "mod" so need a little more time to install.

I did ask during my 5K servicing but the SA told me it was not available then. Will try again at next servicing :)

I also had the bad luck of a chip at my QQ 2.0 windscreen recently by a flying stone. It seems to be only a small chip which is not spreading (hopefully). Will keep monitor the condition and should i need to replace it, i'll certainly make sure they get the correct part before dismantling. Thanks for sharing.

This is probably not enough cases for a correct statistical representation, but within this forum today, I am reading 3 cases of new Nissan cars with windscreen chips/cracks.

My Sylphy kenna road stone hit last Wed on the PIE and the windscreen cracked from the top middle downwards for about 30cm after a few minutes of propagation.

I just sent it in this morning for windscreen replacement, claim under insurance with $107 payment. I can't help but compare to my previous Jazz that kenna hit all the time but never once cracked in 7.5 years. Hope it is just a one time unlucky incident.

I think, it would be better if you go Leng Kee/Bukit Timah or Ubi for Servicing or parts changed?

I stay at Toa Payoh, but also went Leng Kee for my 1k servicing, cause i somehow just don't trust 100% their servicing at TPY.

Think TC has alot of improvement that they need to do, if not will become a bad PR.

Neutral Newbie

My apologies for crashing into this thread.

I've placed my order for an xtrail to be delivered end march.

I can't help by noticing all these problems encountered by you guys and i believe the new xtrail may also have its fair share of problems.

Just want to reach out to the first batch of xtrail owners, like have you encountered any of the problems mentioned here? How's the ride so far and how is the fuel consumption?

Thanks in advance.

Hi

I am seriously looking at QQ, apart from another PI's Vezel.

Read this thread, and notice that the Air Circulation and HU seem to be a problem.

I am driving a cheap conti now. What I have to do everything I start my car, is to on my Aircon Fan switch and then depress the Circulation button. It stays engage for this ride only. Process repeat itself on my next engine crank.

If the problem in QQ is only for a few cars, then it is isolated and I feel more at ease. But if every car is facing the same problem, then it will be no no for me. Please advise

For HU, instead of changing to the one offer by TC, can we get our car, and then get third party to change it to some good Pioneer set - GPS included?

Why aint we exploring this?

Sorry for the long message

Cheers

Hi,

Just to make you (and me too) feel better, the issue of a/c and HU do not happen on my QQ. I have the habit of turn off the a/c when parking my car and the re-circulation function stays on when i start the car again. For the HU, my SA included the local one (with GPS) in my pakage and have not have any issue except complain on the BT receiption. In short, am happy with it and hope this will stay as it is.

cheers

I've exprienced the repair services from Ubi before and it's a big no-no too. Think the workshop there is out-sourced to another company (Autolotion) that repairs/services other makes as well as Nissan and not run by Tan Chong Motors direct.

I've been servicing my previous QQ (2008 model) and the current one at Bukit Timah but decided to get the windscreen repairs at Toa Payoh since I stay in Sembawang... Big mistake... <_< Should have stuck to Bukit Timah for the windscreen replacement too.

My previous QQ (2008 model) have small chips on the windscreen as well as I drive along TPE daily and will definitely encounter lorries ferrying stones and construction material, but have never had a cracked windscreen before. Hopefully, this is an isolated incident too.

I tend to off my AC too after each drive but don't experience the ambient air auto-switch thing each time as well. I just make it a habit to press the circulate button each time I turn on the AC. Not too much a hassle for me.

I think the problem with getting 3rd party HU is whether the steering wheel controls can be used to activate/use the HU controls, especially the bluetooth function. The local HU set wasn't available when I got my ride so I installed a stand-alone Garmin GPS with video input for the reserve camera I installed too. Decided not to risk it with trying 3rd party HU in case the steering wheel buttons don't work with the new HU.

Aircorn circulation - I guess you guys can try this method
1) Car started
2) Change air vent into cabin circulation
3) Turn on your air-corn.

This will prevent aircorn from switching to outside air vent. This work for me so far. Just to share.

As for HU, i did ask, but TC doesn't have the "Bracket" for you to install other third-party, if you were to custom outside think cause you a few hundred just for that "bracket" for you to install 3rd party, but so far my HU is working fine. I guess it depends on the "batches" of the HU and installation. Controls just as Audio and Bluetooth should be able to work with Pioneer/Kenwood HU as they have a converter. As long you willingly to spent can be done.

One down side is the Dashboard on-board System function which can and by right should be updated with more features, especially with 1.2 coming out with some specs which the 2.0 doesn't have.

Thanks Jseo, Shpeft, Busy_Cool. Appreciate your reply.

Having to depress the Air-Cir button every time is Ok for me, as I have been doing it for past years.

Just want to make sure that this is consistent with all QQ.

The sudden switch back from Internal Cir to External Cir actually was a concern to me, as I have small kid at home

Thanks for reply on the HU as well.

If the China OEM one is not reliable, I will either stay put and add-on a GPS OR Outsource for Pioneer/Kenwood installer then.

I am a low road user in Spore, but periodic travel to Melaka once in a while.

Any advise from any expert, whether a 1.2Turbo is enough - especially on a long term.

Spore car is expensive, make sense to buy and hold, rather than to change every now and then.

Or a 2.0 is highly recommended

Thanks in advance

My 2 cents, 1.2 Turbo for Long ride, i won't suggest as afterall it is turbo charged and driving up NS highway if you hit average 120-140km/h will be stress on the engine. Max speed they put is 173km/h.

If you driving around town 1.2 Turbo will make more sense as fuel saving for road tax/insurance(?)/fuel, i guess. *But then the Moonroof is my killer for 2.0 version and the 19inch tyre.

HU i don't know if the stock HU support malaysia map, better to check with the SE.

Someone in the forum shared that we can buy the bracket online. It is quite nice. You can try to google it.

I am using the stock HU, the 5 inch display - did not opt for the new HU when my SA asked me if I wanted to upgrade. So far so good

Those ppl driving non conti will not get used to it as the AC will stick to the last used.

Since you drive a conti, the habit of turning on the circulation is normal.

In anycase, TC is sorting out the AC problem and testing a few ways to overwrite the central system.

Its not as straight forward as we think here because don't forget Nissan also has a universal system with Renault.

HU prbs, I did not encounter any so far, this reminds me I supposed to test to import contacts to the HU, I rem I did try to import but the HU does not rem. I think those who tried, pls post your findings here.

You can install 3rd party HU if you install the mounting frame. But u need to order from UK.

Yes, I noted that if you press the circulation button BEFORE you turn on aircon, the auto switch to ambient does not happen.

So far I have been using this method these few days and it works.

Also if you do not switch off the aircon before you turn off engine, the system will also remember the last used setting.

If only TC had brought in the HU with NissanConnect... Must be cutting cost to maximize profit.

The auto-switch could be because aircon was first turned on, then the circulation button was press.

I am still monitoring this.

Also TC is testing to reduce the ambient intake if the circulation jumps to ambient (for any reason)

ruddies ride is installed with the new settings. As soon as the settings appear stable, I am sure TC will release the 'patch' to everyone.

Have not test drive the 1.2t yet. But the drive might not be the same as the weight of 1.2t and 2.0 is almost the same weight.

The drive might be sluggish I feel. But of cos u save on roadtax and its 15k cheaper. :)

Just curious, other than a few here, no one else has concern with the lock system of your QQ?

If you are not aware, when central lock is activated, all your passengers door can still be open from the inside of your cabin unless you turn on your childlock.
QQ lock is the euro lock system where once you activate central lock, the car cannot be opened from outside.
This is for safety purpose citing carjack or robbers.
If you read the manual there is another super lock system which is not installed on our QQ where you activate the central lock and your locks cannot be open from both inside and outside.

The reason why I am concern on the lock is that I have kids but I do not want to put childlock for both rear doors.
Its quite dumb if you need to open doors for passenger (other than your kids) everytime they take your car.

There is also another newer version of lock where, once you activate central lock, your passengers have to pull the handle 2 or 3 times before the car door opens from inside.

For me, I press the recirculation after ac is on and it stays in that mode at that ride. It does not trip to ambient. So far so good.

If I leave the ac on during engine shut, it remembers last set position at next start.

I am beginning to get used to the Conti concept for ac.

The HU made in china however is a pain. This is my third set now and I am only using cigarette charging for my phone. Keeping my fingers crossed it will not froze or reboot during rides.

I believe this is the case of euro lock system and I admit it is dumb. The design does not cater for child needs it appears.

I did not notice or tried this till u mention. So far not a pro for me as my kids are told not to touch the door handles.

Not the case of me. Ac does not trip when I depress recirculation after turn on ac.

The patch does help in reducing smell when it trips to ambient. The new setting by tc is bulls**t, it does not work.

Can you share about the new settings?

From what I know, the ac system will switch to manual instead of auto by default.

We still need to press the circulation.. before or after turning on aircon.

In order to reduce the smell, a filter was put on the intake pipe.

I want to have that filter on!

Maybe just a stack of tissue papers sticked there. LOL
