Yes, no need to re-sign, thats why I was shocked to receive the notes of the free viewing of WC2014... :o

 

I upgraded the 'Gold' package in 2011, just received the memo, free WC2014... :huh:

 

Is it true..? 2011 got Gold package meh?? I thought it started only last year.

My Gold package signed in 2013 and Singtel said must re-sign for another 2 years to get free viewing??!!

Vietnam rejects $10 mln price for World Cup TV rights

All television broadcasters in Vietnam have refused MP&Silva’s asking price of US$10 million for the rights to broadcast the 2014 World Cup in Vietnam.

It is an unimaginable price and it is triple the price for the 2010 World Cup broadcast rights, said Le Van Phu, head of the sports department of Ho Chi Minh City Television (HTV).

“We hope football fans support our decision to refuse to broadcast the games in Vietnam based on such an exorbitant price,” he added.

Several online newspapers in Vietnam have recently reported that football fans will not be able to watch the live matches of the 2014 World Cup, to be held in Brazil from June to July.

This is because MP&Silva, the international media agency appointed by FIFA to distribute the TV rights in Vietnam, is asking an unimaginable $10 million.

Economic issues

Tuoi Tre have contacted responsible officials of major TV stations in Vietnam, all of whom confirmed that they have refused to pay such a high price, unless MP&Silva is willing to lower it.

Phu explained that HTV will spare no efforts to meet the demands of Vietnamese football fans, but cannot find a solution to the economic issue.

“At the World Cup four years ago, HTV spent a million U.S. dollars to share limited rights from Vietnam Television, and we lost in terms of business.

“But this year, we estimate the price is three times more than that of the previous event. It is an unimaginable price,” Phu said. “I call it an unimaginable price because the World Cup is not as important of an event as it once was; there is now an excess of international football tournaments.”

“It’s even more ridiculous if you factor in the world’s current economic recession,” he said. “And the World Cup matches are not taking place at a suitable time for Vietnamese viewers, as they would be broadcast from 3:00 am to 5:00 am.”

Vu Quang Huy, deputy director of the digital TV station VTC, agreed with Phu and added, “I am happy to know that other broadcasters also refused the price.”

Cao Van Liet, director of K+, confirmed, “We don’t target the World Cup in our business strategy.”

Viettel, a new TV influential in Vietnam, and national broadcaster Vietnam Television (VTV), announced that they had refused the asking price although “the chances for negotiation are still open.”

Solutions to be developed

Despite rejecting the expensive price, Vietnamese television broadcasters believe the disagreement between MP&Silva and local TV stations will end before the kick-off of the tournament.

“I don’t think MP&Silva will easily decrease the requested amount, but they will not suffer losses in this affair,” said Huy. “I believe a compromise will be reached. MP&Silva will lower their price to suit the Vietnamese market.”

A representative from VTV also believes that a solution will be reached because “MP&Silva will not allow itself to suffer losses as it already spent seven million U.S. dollars buying TV broadcast rights from FIFA to distribute in Vietnam.”

Another factor is FIFA’s plans to develop football in Vietnam.

Niclas Ericson, the television director of FIFA, was quoted in a story posted on MP&Silva’s website on April 17, 2013 as saying that MP&Silva is committed to making FIFA’s major tournaments popular in Vietnam, a potential football market.

Is the Stinktel coverage live live - no 5s or a few seconds delay?

 

Its live but there is still delay, like 0.05 seconds delay compared to analogue signal. I use CH5 as a comparison.

 

CH5 plugged into antenna.

CH5 on Starhub = 0.02 seconds (my guesstimation, voice not in syn with above)

CH5 on Mio Tv = 0.05 seconds (my guesstimation, voice not in syn with above)

 

 

So conclusion, no matter its starhub or mio, both will have delay unless one is live at the soccer stadium. [grin]

i recontracted in dec 2013. n seeing that bpl season ends in may, i jus recontracted agn for the free world cup. no difference cos i'll still b paying till may 2016.

 

but after that...will see what singtel is up to n weigh my options.

Sorry I'm not sure how to do this.

I'm supporting England (been their fan since 1974).

Admittedly they don't stand much chance I think but who knows and anyway

a true fan should stick to his team know matter what but it's been basically penalty heartache almost always and that's why I hate penalty shoot outs!!

ESPN News: Rooney: England 'can all be heroes'

 

England striker Wayne Rooney is hoping he will finally hit top form in an international tournament at this summer's World Cup finals.

 

Manchester United hit-man Rooney has struggled to live up to the huge expectations that tend to surround him in the build-up to major competitions, with England boss Roy Hodgson suggesting on Monday that it was "very wrong to put the hopes of a footballing nation like England on the shoulders of one man."

 

Yet the 28-year-old admits he is eager to make up for his disappointing displays at the 2006 and 2010 World Cup finals with a star showing in Brazil.

 

"You always feel this can be your tournament," stated Rooney, in an interview published in the Daily Mirror. "It hasn't happened for me at the last two World Cups, but I've prepared as well as I can for this tournament. I'll be ready and fully fit and I'm really excited about that.
