Yuan 6th Gear April 12, 2014 Share April 12, 2014 yes, I agree honda produced good engineering and refined engine in past decades, I'm driving 2008 Civic1.8M, indeed appreicate honda's engineering, but now it wants to lower down price, civic transfered to Thailand factory, and Singapore only import 1.6A, w/o MT and 1.8/2.0 versions, and only 2 airbags, look at K3, 6 airbags, how much one airbag? why honda so stingy? Cost factor? That what was brought to our shores are "stripped down" version. ↡ Advertisement
Yuan 6th Gear April 12, 2014 Share April 12, 2014 hee hee, upgrade or downgrade, Facts speak louder than words, let's see Elantra vs Civic: 1. Country of Manufacture: Korea vs Thailand Elantra Win 2. price: 145k vs 150k Elantra Win 3. Performance: 130bhp/157Nm vs 125bhp/151Nm Elantra Win 4. Transmission: 6 speed (A) vs 5 speed (A) Elantra Win 5. Fuel Consumption: 14.9km/L vs 14.7km/L Elantra Win 6. Wheelbase (mm) 2700 vs 2670 Elantra Win 7. Number of Airbags: 6 vs 2 Elantra Win 8. Traction Control: Yes vs No Elantra Win 9. Keyless Start: Yes vs No Elantra Win 10. Smart key & boot remote control: Yes vs No Elantra Win 11. Front Fog lamp: Yes vs No Elantra Win 12. Rear Aircon: Yes vs No Elantra Win 13. Reverse Camera: Yes vs No Elantra Win 14. Driver Electric Seat: Yes vs No Elantra Win Downgrade or upgrade?? : That is what I meant by "stripped down" version as compared to continental rides or other makes. In the U.S. markets, the Japanese rides are equipped with all the airbags and safety features and with the element of reliability and stringent quality standards, consumers would be able to choose and decide their cars or purchases on a more level platform. Unfortunately, this is not the case in our country.
Nzy Twincharged April 12, 2014 Share April 12, 2014 You very clever leh. Next time I will buy a China car that is fully spec with all the accessories and so on. It will be the best, better than any Korean, Jap or even Continental cars. Definitely an upgrade too. I think the safety rating also important. I think both Elantra and Civic got about the same safety rating right? But Civic sold in Singapore has some airbags removed so probably lower than the Elantra. If the China car gets the same safety rating as the other cars, I think people will start to buy also. Just like the Korean cars.
Quantum 5th Gear April 12, 2014 Author Share April 12, 2014 Cost factor? That what was brought to our shores are "stripped down" version. besides "stripped down" version, also should import "elite" version, "stripped down" version sold to those "Ah Beng" for aftermarket modification "cheong", we are family man, always put family members' safety on top of money, so I don't mind spend 10k more to buy with good safety equipped car, but honda (singapore) is very disappointed consumers. Fourth 2nd Gear April 13, 2014 Share April 13, 2014 (edited) The brand will save your life in an accident? Not sure. Never sit in either car before. Nzy Twincharged April 13, 2014 Share April 13, 2014 agree, I will vote civic if it equipped following: 6 Airbags and c/w Traction Control IIRC the civic get the same safety rating as the elantra when it is equipped with the 6 airbags and traction control. So those sold in Singapore are not the same as those that are being tested.
Elessar 1st Gear April 13, 2014 Share April 13, 2014 Civic for Singapore market is still made in Japan. Check the facts please. Above listed points are all features and specification related. There are some other factors which couldn't be judged by the above such as reliability, driving experience, engine refinement and popularity (related to resale price and easiness to trade in) to the majority public. Cheers. http://www.sgcarmart.com/new_cars/newcars_listing.php?MOD=HONDA&PR1=0&PR2=&VT=Any&DT=Any Current batch of KM civics should be Made in Thailand. Tcx607 4th Gear April 13, 2014 Share April 13, 2014 I am a Honda owner. Looking at last 4yrs, Honda has lost the market share. Just 2 yrs ago in USA, the Civic was graded "Not recommended to buy". Honda civic immediately when for face lift. The sale did not improved. Then, 2014 civic comes with better quality, sales improved a little. Too bad, Toyota has already caught up with sporty look & better performance & handling today. So, honda need to introduce turbo charge to catch up in 2015
Voodooman Supersonic April 13, 2014 Share April 13, 2014 (edited) Honda cars are way too overpriced in Singapore (Stuck up SE attitude too). Performance models aside, a Honda drives just like a typical Toyota or Nissan or Mazda etc. If one were to buy a typical Honda car in Australia or NewZealand, It would costs almost the same as its Jap competitors. Over priced yes but Honda cars typically (not all models) drive better than Toyota and Nissan (not sure about Mazda but I rented the CX9 for 2 weeks and the handling is ok but not exceptional). I can attest to that as I have driven all 4 makes in the last 10 years but I value handling over comfort, FC, equipment level, specs, etc. Edited April 13, 2014 by Voodooman
