Wrote to LTA to enquires about the installation of the Hitch Receiver. And got their replied.

"Bike Racks & Carriers:

We have, in-principle, no objections to the installation of a bicycle rack at the rear of a car for the purpose of transporting bicycles so long as the following safety requirements are complied with:

a) the bicycle rack installed should be suitable for vehicle;

(b) the installation of the bicycle rack and the securing of bicycles on the rack is carried out in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations;

© no part of the bicycles shall project beyond the body or wheels of the vehicle;

(d) the transportation of the bicycles shall not impair the rear view of the driver, the vehicle number plate, the vehicle lighting systems or cause any danger to other road users. (Note: If the vehicle number plate is obscured by the rack or the bicycles transported, then an additional number plate has to be hung at the rear of the vehicle); and

(e) rear view mirrors shall be fitted externally on the off-side and near-side of the vehicle to assist the driver to become aware of traffic at the rear and on both sides rearwards.

From your photograph, we have no objections to the hitch receiver so long as it is fitted below the rear bumper of the vehicle. Please note that the bicycle rack should be removed from the hitch receiver when it is not transporting any bicycle.

As the transportation of bicycles at the rear of the vehicle may have implications on road safety aspects, drivers are advised to drive the vehicle with due care and attention and with reasonable consideration for other road users. Enforcement action will be taken against drivers who convey their bicycles in a manner likely to cause danger, annoyance or obstruction to other road users."

I intend to purchase from Etrailer thro' Vpost. and get local workshop to install for me.

I got a quote from LS Dritribution and they quote me S$850 to S$1000+.

Micheal, do you mind sharing your letter to LTA. Thanks

A quick poll for Xtrail owners... What's the highest speed you guys went in S'pore or up North...

So far on S'pore roads, went to 120 km/h & there seem to be some resistance by the engine. Will test out the car's potential when I go M'sia this weekend on a full load.

Tried up to 100km/h in SG, no issue so far.

Please share your coming experience for higher speed. TIA

Supercharged

My understanding from the brochure:

Complimentary 3 servicings (1K, 5K and 10K) using mineral oil (package F). To use synthetic oil, add $16 per litre so each time $64 (should be 4 litres).

NPMP $1,488 gives 4 servicings (10K, 20K, 30K and 40K) for 2 years or 40K whichever occurs earlier. The 10K appears to be a repetition in this case. For 3 servicings (packages A, B and C), it added up to $1,394. Why the NPMP at $1,488 costs more than $1,394?

Is the NPMP mean last servicing at 2 years even mileage lesser than 40K? Servicing at every 6 month even mileage lesser than 20K, 30K and 40K respectively?

Anyone care to share their experience?

Brochures

If your have free servicing till 10k, then your NPMP will only starts at 20k. Four rounds will be 20k, 30k, 40k and 50k.

As for either 6 months or 10k, if you are low usage driver, no need to stick to 6 months. 9 months to 12 months also ok.

For mileage, delayed till 12k-15k then service is also fine if you are heaver driver.

They will write a note in your service handbook but they will not cancel your NPMP.

 Important is, if you feel your car is no efficient or bo lat etc, then send in for the servicing.

Just did my 1K servicing today. Asked SC, he said every 10K or every 6 months whichever earlier. I think better ask TC to put in writing every 10K/ 6 months (NO 'whichever earlier') in case much lesser than 10K in 6 months.

Missed the mee siam near BT service centre. Not open cos 1st day of fasting month. Some MCFer said very nice. Will try next time.

I didn't know they don't change the engine oil at 1k coz I hear of those that buy their cars thru PIs getting servicing warranty at 1k/5k/10k and those workshops really put in new engine oil.

Got 3 types of service vouchers on DUO:

1) Saver service

2) Standard service

3) Full service

Not sure how redeeming for which category would make a difference and what amount of minimum spending for each servicing is to be expected ($100, $250, $500, no limit).

Did my 1K servicing Friday, confirmed change (mineral) oil. Spoke to SC, need to top up if want to change to synthetic oil at 10K. May use any redeemed DUO coupon for NPMP subject to t&c minimum spending. DUO pt will expire in 2 years.

# did servicing yesterday .... bad memory ... haha

So far so good.

Do we need to switch to My map manually when we cross over? Or it'll load automatically?

Can the mat be folded when you want to use the 3rd row?

It's good for keeping the interior clean & try but I figured it'll have to be folded otherwise how to store it when we want to use the 3rd row?

Brought the hitch to a workshop that specialises in landrover and off-road modifications at ubi, charged me $60. Had to do some adjustments because there is only 1 welded nut
