Congrats Yong Lip. I shared the same likes and irritants as you. Hahha

However I am surprised they offered u a good deal on yr current ride. For mine, their offer was 6k less than market offer!

Today COE result, my bid by dealer was unsuccessful. :)

Thank you all for sharing your inputs and feedback to the Head Unit and the ride.

I used to be in the spare parts industry. Am gonna contact my network to see what fancy stuff can zing my new M5. Hahahhah will share if I happen to find some interesting stuff

Btw, is there a Mazda 5 group or Mazda group forum or FB?

this is the M5 forum, the only one.

There is a Mazda facebook group called: SG Mazda Club (SGMC).

I used to think naively that all the deals are more or less the same regardless of SE. My recent experience has shown this is not the case, u get the right SE,..it can mean getting the car sooner without paying extra for it, higher trade-in, more goodies etc...the difference can be quite drastic. I guess its a matter of heng/suay..

Back to the car...Every car I have ever purchased in the past, there will almost definitely be some gripe (KPKB) along the way,...this one no rear aircon vents, that one no power sliding doors, this one mirrors cannot fold, that one cannot load things bought from IKEA,..this one looks crappy etc..With M5, this 'KPKB' list is getting shorter and shorter (still have but shorter), my wife says hopefully this time round, I can drive the car for 10 solid years and I will not 'hiam tang hiam sai' anymore.

I think so also....Despite all its shortcomings, the M5 is currently the cheapest 7 seater power sliding door MPV/Car one can buy in Singapore from an Authorised Dealer. Period.

cheers.

Just made a trip to Port Dickson. Avg l/100km is 8.7(info button).

I went in Malaysia using 98. The engine would jump to 3,000 or 4,000 rpm if I press hard on the accelerator.

After I pump V-power in Malaysia, the pick up in rpm is gradual.

I conclude that the ride with high octave oil is smoother.

What are your opinion ? What is your mileage using 95, 500km or less ?

I pumped 270 kpa on all tyre for the trip. Still too much rubber on the road.

Anyone pump 280 kpa on all tyre before ? I am driving M5.

When I test drove the car, I find the i-stop ok. it was not a hinderance at all and I was able to drive normally like I always do. the stop-start was so fast i hardly notice it.

On a side note, I realise during the test drive M5 manual shifting is truly manual i.e. the manual gear shifting will not auto jump to another gear. I have test driven another model whereby the supposedly manual gears auto shift in accordance to the speed of the car,..although helpful in gear changing, it totally takes the 'fun' away from manual shifting.

My bad. drove my friend's car today and realised the other car also shifts manually.

counting down...collecting my M5 in less than 2 weeks...

I have been getting 13km/l, manual calculation on NSH with VPower 97, 3 adults, 3 children, 1x 24" luggage bag, a few bags of stuff.

Average speed on NSH is 120km/h. I pumped the front 240kpa and back 280kpa, according to the label.

Have yet to try VPower Racing with this car.

For bros who have not seen this before.

A 2012 taiwan video on fuel consumption testing on Mazda 5 2.0. Total distance travelled to and fro for each test is close to 500+KM. they computed the actual fuel used for the trip rather than use the vehicle on board computation. cruise control was used (alas SG models dont have). all conditions were similar for all 3 tests and the only difference is speed. Envy the Taiwan ambient temperatures...

in summary when cruise control was set at

110km/hr (actual speed varies) - 12.25km per litre

95km/hr - 13.97km per litre

80km/hr - 15.18km per litre

I think it goes to proves a point which i think many bros are already aware - if want to have good consumption numbers, don't drive too fast.

cheers.

The 2012 Mazda 5 in Taiwan is not the Skyactiv engine and it's a 5 speed AT. By right the FC for ours should be even better. I also noticed prior to the Skyactiv Mazda 5 in Singapore, they came with cruise control also for the Mazda 5 SP. Same design as ours but different engine:

I'm driving the Non-skyactive 5 speed model 2013 with cruise control

Best around 11km/litres. on average around 10.2-10.5km /litres and I'm on 70% highway.

Anyway petrol now around $1.81/litres so saving that few kilometers doesn't really matter much unless u work in sales line where u need to travel point A to point B frequently..

Fyi: I'm using stock 16inch rims and new Nitrogen filled BS RE003 tyres.

My advice is try to disable the i-stop.

Coz i saw from other Mz3 thread this i-stop battery costs $290 compare to normal conventional Maintenance free battery $110-$150..

So if used often, I'm sure the istop battery will deteriorate and eventually need to replace before the usual 2nd year...

I'm not confirmed on this since Sky-active model still relatively new on market..

So even though Sky-active model supposedly saves petrol but the maintenance to replace the consumables some how is more expensive than traditional model.. ironic .. :) [laugh]

Can any kind soul feedback on the max period the i-stop will activate upon stopping the car?

Mine will just activate for max period of 5 seconds even though conditions remain the same

(ie. same pressure on brakes, steering wheel not moved).

Cant find any answers from SE and the net.

Thanks in advance. [confused]

Any idea how much petrol i-stop saves on Mz5? My experience with the Nissan version of i-stop is that half an hour of "stopped" engine only saves less half a litre (or less than $1) of fuel. And to accumulate half an hour means the i-stop is activated 120 times (assuming 15s per stop).

Hard to estimate for Mazda 5. But for Mazda 3, they have a screen which tells you how many times the i-Stop has activated and how many trees you have saved so far.

They should also have indicate that est. life span left for the starter motor with the no. of i-stop activation... hehehe...

Thanks for the advice.

I will still try to utilise the i-stop function as it was one of the main reasons why i bought the car. By not using it, it will defeat the purpose of not using the technology that comes with it. I will update fellow mazda5 drivers how long the battery can last if i-stop is activated daily. Hopefully it can last at least 2 years. FYI, was told the battery warranty was for 1 year only.. I think its the same with the power doors (or anything for that matter). The more its being used, the battery/actuator i think uplorry faster. hehe. Some may also argue its better to use something regularly as the system might not be able to take the sudden shock of irregular usage and uplorry faster...haha...end of the day, i guess its heng suay again.

I like the fact that there is a manual option for the power doors. just in case the motor/actuator uplorry. My current car has only manual sliding door and no power door (one of the reasons why I change to M5). I guess many M5 owners can agree with me, once a sliding door user, hard to revert to normal doors..haiz.

I have rec some pm for info on the SE that served me,..i just wanna say that each buyer's circumstance is different, what the SE did for me may not apply to another buyer...sales is a dog eat dog world, I do not want to get embroiled in it. I am just trying to be careful here as it could be other SEs writing to me. unless the buyer is someone i know, hope bros and sis can understand my hesitation to share more..

Best of luck to those buying..huat ah.

cheers.

While doing my 10k servicing in December, I spoke to an owner of Mazda 6, he uses his skyactive.  He was ask to change to new battery during his 20k servicing( left about 40%- Mazda advisor mention), he has the car for only 1.5 years ++.

It was on promotion $200 according to him and decide to change the battery.

Seems battery need to change frequently and not cheap!!! My last car on AMARON lasted me almost 4 years!! Anyone knows what grade of engine oil Mazda 5 uses. 0w20 ?

Hi all. May I know anyone of you recent buyers were successful in the recent COE Bid?

Salesman called me to asked if I would wish to top up to get open cat? I told him I was unwilling to do so.

me.

but i wouldn't compare like that..to be really fair to your sales guy, have to see the whole deal...as mentioned in my earlier post, this is something which i do not really like to do as it can become very sensitive. These guys are also just trying to make a living. Your sales guy could have given you something which my sales guy did not.....

i like to think your sales guy is not trying to make anything from the top up; i think its more like checking with you whether you want the car earlier, if want, then top up, else just wait for 2 more bids. After all they will have to give you the car within 3 bids. There will be people who will top up just to take the car earlier.

cheers.

I read a Mazda 3 owner was also asked whether want to change battery at 30k servicing. Think it may be Eurokars pulling stunts. Mazda Skyactiv engines recommended to use 0W20 and Mazda has formulated with Idemitsu a special blend for their engines. It's called the Mazda 0W20 GF-5 with Moly. I believe Eurokars is using this for those Mazda with Skyactiv engines and that's why more expensive.
