..................Available from 22nd August 2014, City Hall, Orchard and Raffles Place are the first of 28 MRT stations to offer free Wireless@SG connection at the platform level. The rest of the 25 MRT stations will get the free Wireless@SG connection over the next 9 months. The trial is implemented as part of the Land Transport Master Plan initiatives to provide better service on the public transport network........................

will we start to see students with laptop camping at the powerpoints? or cheepo nanas standing there for an hour to fully charge up their devices?

hope this "solution" will not cause trouble. may users be "auto" abit and not hog the plugs!

I can foresee ppl just hogging the chargers, as users may not be really waiting for trains or buses.

Maybe they should intro time limit? And would there be "virus" spreading from the chargers?

Aiya, why cannot charge at home or workplace first?

Save the hassle of waiting for the phone to be charges at these bus stop or train station....

And lastly, better don't use phone or call or play games during charging, phone may explode leh :D

LTA should just improve the bus and MRT services and better spend the money on service rather these useless frills.

good and relevant points being brought up

unfortunately the reality it is happening in many metro stations in the world

the limiting factor for abuse

is there is a certain time allowed within the paid area

there surely must be a time limit to free wifi ~ knowing how "generous" they are

majority of people would rather use there own data plan ~ no need to lock in, safe and seamless

benefit especially to tourists, students and those without data plan

these are part of the added value service

i suspect to allow the telecoms to have transmitter and receivers in the station part of their contract includes providing these free wifi services

i don't think it cost the mrt very much or anything

trying to make them forget about the woes of smrt and bus

They want us to charge free and be happy as we wait anxiously & impatiently for the stalled trains, and while waiting for the RED light in the station to turn GREEN :D

When I saw this, I imagined the Top Gear 'bit' where James (Captain Slow) goes "Good news!! The Dacia Sandero is now available with power windows!" and the other two go "Really?!" and then move right on, as if it's complete non-news. [laugh]

This "news" is just like that. Fix the bigger problems instead of the small crap that nobody asked you to fix. Otherwise, someone in Singapore will be saying "Good news!! The MRT now has charging stations for laptops and phones!", with an equally droll response. :D

Why would people need to wait long enough for their phones to charge ? Not like you're waiting for a flight, 30-60 mins after check in.

Preparing them for the long wait to come. :D
