The JDM 2.0 turbo CVT (the vincar import that you responded to in the quoted post) is nearly 300ps and 0-100 in about 5.3 secs. XT is not in the same performance league.

JDM FXT also 285hp 0-100 5.2secs

JDM FXT also 285hp 0-100 5.2secs

I understand DIT FXT is only out in Japan next year @ 280PS (Levorg's at 300PS). Add the extra weight and higher CG, performance will surely be a notch lower.

Levorg is like a 5 door WRX. Not everyone fancies a SUV as a sports car...

the new WRX (which technically is the sedan version of Levorg)?

The WRX from AD does not have the higher power JDM specs.

You're right on that score - I was previously responding to the 1.6 GT-S and somehow mixed the two up.

hmm....i didn't know that

well if i am correct,  they are sharing the same DIT 2.0 engine and AD wrx power can always increase via tuning..

There are a few options for wagons (approx <$200K) as of 10-16 Dec 2015 (ascending order):

  1. Toyota Corolla Fielder $102-113K (PI - Japan launched 2015)
  2. Honda Shuttle $113K (PI) - I don't quite classify this as a true stationwagon
  3. Chevrolet Cruze Wagon $119K (Alpine Motors)
  4. Ford Focus Wagon $127K (Regent Motors)
  5. Honda Stepwagon $139-152K (PI) I consider this more of a SUV/Wagon combo, not a true stationwagon
  6. Peugeot 308 SW $131K (AutoFrance)
  7. Hyundai i40 Wagon est $POA - $141K (Komoco) last price $141K as of Jul 2015
  8. Subaru Levorg 1.6 GT-S $139K (MI)
  9. Mazda 6 Wagon $145K (Trans Eurokars)
  10. Ford Mondeo Wagon (price not tentative, but expect to be >$160K - Regent Motors was supposed to bring this in - I don't have the update)
  11. Peugeot 508 SW $163K (AutoFrance)
  12. Mercedes Benz CLA Shooting Brake CLA180 $167K (PI)
  13. Subaru Levorg 2.0 GT-S $170K (PI) price subject to change depending on PI & OMV/PARF
  14. Volvo V6 T5 $190K (Wearnes)
  15. Mercedes Benz CLA Shooting Brake CLA200 $186K (Cycle & Carriage)
  16. Mercedes Benz CLA Shooting Brake CLA250 4MATIC $202K (C&C)

There is literally nothing in that price range $170K for a wagon with that prodigious amount of power and spaciousness. My BP9 Legacy wagon is even more "spacious" than the Mazda 6 wagon - reason being the Mazda 6's huge wheel arches protrude into the cabin, minimizing much useable space.

The Levorg brings back the sleek lines and usefulness that the BP9 Legacy (4th generation) was endowed with and that help the BP9 win the prestigious Japan Car Of The Year 2x in a row back in 2007 when it was introduced.

The BP9 has outlived its time and it has certainly proved its worth. Subaru fans did not like the successor to the BP9 (called B4), which was unveiled in 2009. Gone were the sleek lines of the BP9, and the new successor was "uglier" and less of what Subaru fans had expected. It was larger, bulkier than its predecessor. The famed 50:50 AWD was also tweaked - it was more front bias. That did not go well with die hard Subaru fans.

Finally, Subaru gave back the fans what they always wanted - a true Legacy (BP9) successor. They unveiled the Levorg in 2014. According to Subaru, the name Levorg is a combination of three words, LEgacy, reVOlution, touRinG. The Levorg shares its platform with the Impreza, and the Legacy. The Levorg is almost identical to size as the Legacy BP9. It evolved into a sleek powerhouse that derived it's technology from the all new WRX. In fact, Subaru gave the fans something that even die-hard WRX aficionados would shiver - they increased the hp of the 2.0 to a staggering 300PS, 5.2 sec 0-100km/h and made the 2.0 a pocket wagon on steroids.

Subaru fans rejoiced. MI was supposed to bring it in to Singapore in Mar 2015. However, local demand in Japan outstripped supply. Subaru could not cope with the local demand. Finally, after almost 2 years since it's inaugural launch, Subaru could export the much anticipated Levorg.

They released 2 variants - the 2.0 and the 1.6. Both feature new generation DIT Boxers. As a result, fuel consumption improved drastically, without compromising performance. However, Japanese manufacturers kept the "higher spec" model for the domestic market. But the 2.0GT-S was available outside of Japan, namely to Australia, and our local PI boys managed to secure some units. Rest of the world got the 1.6 spec variant.

The Legacy lives on. And rightly so. Well done, Subaru.

Test drive levorg, nice drive, interior cannot compare to conti, but handling is better than those ford, Peugeot or Opel .

Good to hear that the Levorg has a good drive. Will look forward to test driving it one day.

Subaru's AWD makes all the difference; of coz on dry surfaces and straight roads, you'll hardly notice the difference. But it makes all the difference in wet conditions and less grippy surfaces.

At $137,800 ,

I think it's a bit steep especially comparing to FXT with larger body size and bigger engine. [dizzy]

What is the OMV?

The Forester XT's OMV = approx $18K.

The Levorg 1.6's OMV should be around there. I reckon the Levorg 2.0 GT-S's OMV would be around $24K thereabouts.

Anyway, price is not "listed" on SGCarmart's site just yet. The Levorg is expected to go on "official" sale at the SG Motor Show next month.

We already know the tentative pricing - MI soft-launched it at $139K (with some discounts "given" for the early bird). That would be around $135-138K after discount(s).

It's not quite fair to compare the Levorg to the Forester XT. These are different classes of vehicles. The Forester is an SUV. The Levorg is a performance wagon (2.0).

It really depends on your requirements and usage.

SUVs have advantages, and so do wagons. I love the low loading platform on my Legacy GT Wagon. And honestly, my Legacy's boot is "larger" than the Forester's. Reason being so is the depth and the Legacy/Levorg is somewhat longer in dimensions compared to the Forester. The downside is the rear passenger's legroom is less spacious. It really depends on your usage criteria.

Handling wise, the Forester XT cannot compare to a low slung wagon, despite the Boxer's low CG on the Forester. However, the Forester's handling and cornering ability will surpass many other SUVs.

As for top speed, obviously the sleeker Levorg boasts a Coefficient Drag (CD) of 0.26, which is far superior to the taller Forester. This translates to a quieter ride and higher top end.

Excerpt from ST:

Astoundingly, Subaru claims a drag coefficient of 0.26 for the car, putting it in the same class as the BMW i8, Nissan GTR and new Jaguar XE. This means that the car not only looks sleek, the low drag will also translate to better fuel economy.

Ultimately, it's your decision & your preference. Either way, the Forester and the 1.6 GT-S Levorg will be a good choice. Note the local variants of the Levorg does not come with Eye-sight. I'm not sure if the PI version of the 2.0 GT-S will come with Subaru's Eye-sight.

Subaru has given its fans what they have been waiting for, the true successor to the famed Legacy. The Levorg is everything the Legacy was meant to be - only better. It retained the dimensions that was just "right", added improvements to NVH, retained the renowned 50:50 AWD, and improved on everything else; a brand new FA20DIT for the 2.0 (from the latest generation WRX). Even the rear seats are reclinable, and same copious boot and low-loading space as the Legacy's.

The legacy that was once Subaru's pride continues in the new Levorg. And this is a new chapter for Subaru.

Excerpt from Subaru Australia's site:

A high output of 221kW (300PS)*1 and torque that reaches 400Nm (40.8kgfm)*1 at 2000 rpm, makes for impressive performance suiting a high grade sports tourer. However, Levorg also achieves a superb environmental value of 13.2 km/litre (JC08 mode).

Guys, as you have mentioned, latest Levorg 1.6 GT-S price published:

http://www.sgcarmart.com/new_cars/newcars_pricing.php?CarCode=11761

$127,800

Glad it's gone down in lieu of the new reduced COE (CAT B) and IMHO $139K is too much for a 1.6 GT-S.

Anyway, I got a quote from Garage R Pte Ltd. It's a full spec Eye-sight variant direct from Japan.

The 2.0 GT-S Eye-sight carries a CEVS penalty of $30K. Crazy.

Total = $135,800 excluding COE.

With COE = $135,800 + $60,000 = $195,800. Pure Madness...
