Spinelli_ck 6th Gear October 24, 2014 Share October 24, 2014 Can turn by hand. If too tight, use plier to turn. the filler cap is flushed against top surface of the battery. something like this (+). a large Phillips head screwdriver is needed. Yeobh 4th Gear October 25, 2014 Share October 25, 2014 (edited) Flood battery need to be top up from time to time with distilled water to compensate the loss due to evaporation. Here is how it is done with a hydrometer - filling and testing the battery electrolyte (it's a mixture of 35% sulfuric acid and 65% water solution) specific gravity reading. I have this and the CCA tester (hopefully it is still workin). I think so far I have service a few hundred of such batteries. :) This is Motocycle battery,,, Ok lah, the same type. the filler cap is flushed against top surface of the battery. something like this (+). a large Phillips head screwdriver is needed. I prefer the filler cap protruding out kind.

Yeobh 4th Gear October 25, 2014 Share October 25, 2014 hi bro, thanks! is it accurate and easy to use? Hydrometer test is used since the day flood lead acid batteries were invented. Battery works on chemical reaction and if the acid S.G. is low the chemical reactions will be slow and no or low voltage will the produced.

Kklee 6th Gear October 25, 2014 Author Share October 25, 2014 (edited) Are you guys going to charge the battery if the hydrometer testing finds it less than ideal ? Edited October 25, 2014 by Kklee
Kb27 Supersonic October 25, 2014 Share October 25, 2014 (edited) Are you guys going to charge the battery if the hydrometer testing finds it less than ideal ? Battery should be fully-charged first, then you use hydrometer to check every cell. If the reading is weak, it means the battery is badly sulphated. You can't do much for a badly sulphated battery, other than replaced it. Edited October 25, 2014 by Kb27
