Finally the CEL came up and sent to BM for warranty repair.

Changed a sensor and the torque converter. Was told due to wear n tear.

Now the unwanted gear change does not happen.

Maybe I got a lemon afterall. Hope this is the full and proper fix.

about smoothness of drive... I have the following questions.

on (busy) expressway, crusing at 60-70km/hr, often I release the accelerator completely to maintain distance from the car in front of me (but no need to use brakes yet). when I _gently_ tap/depress the accelerator afterwards, the gearbox is engaged (I am speaking like this is manual GB, but I know this is CVT) and almost always generates a shudder.

Is this normal for CVT to have this shudder, especially at this travelling speed.

It makes the ride more jerky, even my child noticed it and ask why the new car is shaky.

I will pay more attention to lower speed if this shudder is also around.

ya will bring back at next service and test drive their own car as well.

clearly at low speed the shake is not observable.

only at certain speed. need to pay more attention is it speed or RPM.

also next few days will check tyre pressure. the ride is more jumpy than I expect but again may be this is normal with the suspension/tyre setup (17" rim).

btw cannot tahan every time I forget to fold the side mirrors, then ended up switch on accessories (?) to folder mirror than off again. waste time. will go install the autofold module.

thanks for the idea. will check EO.

is it possible it is dirty throttle?

sometimes I feel the engine is running fast/slow than the CVT so when I depress accelerator, the two speed do not match hence shudder... damn I am creative  :D

not much rubberband feel for me so far. but apart from the shudder, I do feel during nearly constant speed sometimes the transmission wants to downshift then quickly upshift again, giving a pull and release feel. but this is rather mild.

Went to showroom n drove test drive car n my car with SE. He concur there is a shudder with mine. So this is not my driving style problem. Will continue to monitor tyre pressure n response between spc n esso.

drove with mechanic the other day my own and test drive car.

the judder is there with the test drive car , unfortunately, so my case was not strong. it also seems the judder reduced over time. either my right foot improved or the last few hundred km's done made a difference. was told this is because car switches between 4th and 5th gear la la la.

on the other hand, i am sure my car has a more bumpy ride but the mechanic dismissed it, and purposely shake the steering left & right on the test drive car to mimic a bumpy ride.

he kept blaming the lower profile tyre (17" rim).

actually, even starting the test drive car and my own car seem to be different.

the test drive car appears more 'sporty' - engine roar to everything seems tighter.

if I got car from PI I may suspect they gave me 'old' car  but with BM I at least dont have this doubt  :P

this is rather annoying as they can always say same ride quality and dismiss all issues. is there some way to quantitatively measure the vibration? I tried using smart phone software but seems the accelerometer on my phone is not sensitive enough.

so just heng suay case?

look through sgcarmart, those 2nd ones still rather high price. Mazda 3 is rather low though, think mostly PHC

Hi,

Anyone have experience with Michelin Primacy R17 compare to PS4?

Thanks.

No experience.

IMHO,  it is rather difficult to compare because one is comfort, there other is sport.

If the load index and speed rating remains the same, not in terms of performance,  PS4 would be more responsive to steering inputs, more cabin noise and harsher ride.

Just sharing some information.

Ever wonder how many more mileage when the low fuel indicator light up?

-   Low fuel indicator lights up -  mileage 1573

-   At petrol station - mileage 1587 km

-   Mileage difference - 14 km

-   Re-fill petrol until nozzle auto-stop - 45.782 litres <-  Assuming that the 55L fuel tank reached maximum.

-   Assuming FC is 12km/L

-   Petrol consumed from low fuel indicator light up to petrol station -  1.167 litres

-   Thus when low fuel indicator lights up, the amount of fuel is 45.782 - 1.167 =  44.615 litres

-   Therefore, when the low fuel indicator lights up, the tank will be left with approximately 55L - 44.615L = 10.385 Litres.

-   Assuming FC is 12km/L,  additional mileage that can be covered would be 124.62 km.

or do what this guy did.

I ever had the same idea - the risk is fuel pump damage.

The results actually could be nearer if I drove the way he did, lightly, where the FC will hit above 14km/L

Unless someone don't mine leading their car.  I can supply the backup fuel in container and funnel.  [laugh]

Actually what I want to test is premium vs regular fuel effect on performance/FC.  Unfortunately Altis don't have cruise control.

Indeed not good idea to run till empty tank.

If you want to compare mileage of 98 vs 95 , i suppose you cam drive till furl light on the fill with diff fuel (repeat if you want) and should be accurate enough.

Like you said road condition varies. So it is litres left but cannot guarantee km remains.

The result will be inconsistent because the usage pattern is different.  I will "wait" until I have access to cruise control.

Traffic condition is a thing you cannot control unless you run with cruise control on a track or 'treadmill'

What if you next car is pure electric?  [:p]

Eh...I can be night rider, but I need cruise control.

What makes you think I will go for EV when I have already chosen PFI over DI.   [laugh]

Hi, I notice Altis steering rack giving out weird sound when turning, especially when idiling before moving, such as when reversing. I tested 3 Altis all having the same sounds. Any owner find similar and anyone feedback to BM?

Hi guys.

Just want to ask if its normal for 2014 Toyota Altis to have slight vibration while idle in D gear?

Some say CVT will have slight vibration is it true?

The vibration where?  Steering?  Engine?  or in general feel that the engine is vibrating?

In general. The seat can feel the vibration when red light. Not very strong vibration. Just that when stationary not completely silent. When go to P is better.

Is it normal?
