Agree ..we do not know how many new citizens buys cars ... Also there is no restrictions to foreigners buying cars in Singapore as well.

So LTA should restrict car ownership like HDB ?

No need. Car ownership among the non-resident population is self-restricting.

See the composition of non-resident, which stands at 1.688 million in 2014. https://www.reach.gov.sg/TalkAbuzz/YourFeedbackOurResponse/tabid/108/mode/3/Default.aspx?ssFormAction=%5B%5BssBlogThread_VIEW%5D%5D&tid=%5B%5B11786%5D%5D

I think we can safely discount the FDWs, Permit holders and even S-pass holders as source of demand for cars.

Only 12% of non-resident population are on employment pass which requires a monthly income of 3.3 K per month. That only generates about 200 000 non-resident with income > 3.3 K. Unfortunately, the data for the breakdown of employment pass at Q1, P2 and P1 level is not available, ie >3.3K, > 4.5K and > 8K income level.

How did $1 jump to $6 within mins?

every dealer are bidding around that price

if every bidder bids 10% of the current market price, then everyone will huat.

but then, everyone know the higher the price, the higher the loan = higher commission for dealers.

everyone huat except buyers.

we can blame no one coz the buyers accepted the price. .
