Char 5th Gear April 18, 2016 Share April 18, 2016 (edited) Prove me wrong and clear my conspiracy thoughts. If total vehicles population is allowed to grow 0.5% yearly... According to the chart...If this chart is correct and believable. 2014 got 972k++ vehicles, while 2016 got 952k++ vehicles. How come 2016 has 20k++ Lesser vehicles compared to year 2014? Because scrap vehicles COE only recycle back to market after 3 months . LTA should release estimate COE early 3 months to off set the imbalance ! if bought new car last year, now 1 year old, if scrap, coe + ARF rebate very clear. how about scrap car value? 20k OMV one can get back 10k meh?Nobody will scrap car within 1-5 years unless COE price plunge more than 30k lo ...otherwise you lugi big big man . Bismarck Turbocharged April 19, 2016 Share April 19, 2016 Garmen very smart... knowing that COE will crash soon, now they are encouraging Uber, Grab, SMRT etc to enter the "private" hire business, to expand their fleet and bid up the COE premium. In reality it runs contrary to what the garmen says it is encouraging, i.e. give up the car to take public transport. Private hire cars are worse than private cars as far as causing traffic congestion is concerned. Assuming they are empty 30% of the time while cruising, and they (the car, not driver) are on the road for 18 hrs a day, compared to our private cars which are probably out 1.5 hrs a day, they are travelling 15-16 times more distance per day, 15-16 time more pollutive, wearing out our roads 15-16 time more, causing 15-16 times more congestion, and yet they pay the same road taxes. Of course it is all in the garmen's plan and calculations, as more congestion means more ERP charges from us.....(and higher COE premiums too). Thats why I said they are never sincere in coming up with solutions on their flawed policies. Even if they do come up with anything, their interest and involvement in business(like public transport) means their policies always do not contradict or hurt their own business.

LTA basically has a lousy bunch of scholars posted to it. Mr Fix-it KBW on his own cannot work miracles and he should get the cream of the scholars to be posted to LTA to sort this out. Christopher Tan's short article on page 2 of today's ST is very apt on the loopholes/ unintended impact of Uber / Grab. I am amazed that the scholar's at LTA are unable to anticipate all these loopholes/ implications and act on it before they surface. Their policies are all very reactive.
whiz18 Clutched April 19, 2016 Share April 19, 2016 Last time I bought from car expo , there was hardly any real advantage in getting it there vs from showroom. One cheapo sun fold (must be less than $10) - thrown away - plus a $50 shell voucher, hardly enough to compensate for the petrol to get there and car parking charges. And actually the deal was all discussed just days before the show. Just going down to sign off . But bloody hell, I went on appointment time it still took me more than an hour wait because the SE was handling several accounts and the car show really was packed totally agree. the only free gift they give is petrol vouchers but lots of t&c. . e.g. minimum loan of 5 years though they reduce the interest-rate. not worth getting at car show. Tool Clutched April 19, 2016 Share April 19, 2016 Well, Im another waiting for the COE to fall. But if really doesn't fall, then no choice take BMW. there is only so much cars singapore market can digest, converting to UBER/GRAB will mean some of the car users giving up their cars and taking on UBER/GRAB as taxi. i don't see it as an incremental. and with more UBER/GRAB, there might be more people selling their cars away to take these options. Thanks.

So for those that bought coe at higher value e.g 70k, they can scrap their car when coe is at 40k to change car? Bought at 60k coe can change when 30k coe? Isnt that easy as we willbe seeing that figure in a year or 2?

Don't know.. don't really care... I just see the numbers as it is. Write a letter to ST forum using citing the LTA data and ask them why so lor? Maybe as some says, the difference is due to the backlog of scrapped COEs held by LTA which will be release in the next period?

Alpine6 1st Gear April 19, 2016 Share April 19, 2016 (edited) Correct me if I am wrong.... Taxi doesn't take-up COE Quota. Uber Rental Car WILL eat into COE Quota. Maybe this article should from 2012 should clarify: http://www.sgcarmart.com/news/article.php?AID=6475 To be specific, taxis will be removed from the COE bidding process but taxi companies will still have to obtain COEs to register new vehicles, which falls under the CAT E / open category. With the gradual shift towards Uber/Grab model, we could see taxi companies either 1) Converting un-utilised vehicles (SH) to private car licenses which can be rented out to individuals or 2) Scrapping un-utilised vehicles, especially if they are well into their 10th year. Under option 1, taxi companies do not need to bid aggressively for CAT A COEs as they can make use of their existing fleet (not sure if this is feasible though) Under option 2, this should translate into more CAT E quote in subsequent bidding exercises My two cents worth Cheers Edited April 19, 2016 by Alpine6 ↡ Advertisement
