Spinball 1st Gear June 30, 2017 Share June 30, 2017 Dear friends, Let me share my experiences and opinion of owning a car: I bought a car do not think of selling it in short future unless unable to maintain a car(no money!) or some defects (not malfunction) I cannot accept or I can make money for selling it. I only sold my Grand Vitara 2 WD because when I bought it the COE is just $6XX (year 2009) and I sold it 3 years later at the same price, cos COE is keep increasing, so it means I have 3 years driving the solid SUV free of charge. All used car dealer will press the price for any reasons when they buy from you, no matter what brand what model. Then they sell it at least mark up $10K. This is what I experience when I help my colleagues sell their cars and selling my Vitara(dealer offering lower amount) If really necessary to sell the car, sell as direct owner will get a better deal because no need to let the dealerâs mark up. But it will be quite troublesome to do some document in LTA transaction. I was lucky that the G.Vitara was sold as direct owner since the buyer have friend working as SE in one car agent and know all the procedures. For the car features, driving in Singapore the CC is not so helpful, but the Speed Limiter is very useful, I always turn it on and set to 85km/h so I do not worry about speeding. My friend in Canada told me the CC is not many people will use cos a lot of accident is caused by using CC and the driver will so relax to fall asleep. Lane keep assist together with blind spot alert I also always keeping on so it will remind me to signal before change lane! Any Opel Astra owner aware the side mirror is a heated mirror? This also very helpful during heavy down pour, when I turn on the heated rear window, the side mirror also heated, it will demist the mirror and obtain a clearer view. There is no spare tyre, only glue and pump kit. I recommend we better buy one spare tyre and place it in the load compartment (spare tyre compartment) because if tyre puncture by nail, it will flatten slowly and can pump up, but if tyre wall was cut, the tyre will be flatten in very short period, no matter what glue or repair kit will not help! My colleague driving PI Shuttle in JB have tyre cut, luckily he bought one spare tyre from carousell and carry along. The above are just my own opinion, please share your opinion and experience also, thanks for reading :-) Hi William.. you bought yr car under management car? Or you add on as options? Haha.. or you work in AG.. If i can remember correctly, according to my SE.. AG has a car that has all the features you mentioned either as a demo car or for their management during launch.. Ya.. heated side mirrors and blind spot monitoring are a plus.. how I wish we can have it in astra as standard rather than options..

I did not get to try it yet. will do if it rains heavily next time I am driving to confirm this.

The vast majority of cars that have heated wing mirror functions tie it to the rear demist function and so activate the mirror heaters when you use rear demisting. Ya.. heated side mirrors and blind spot monitoring are a plus.. how I wish we can have it in astra as standard rather than options.. Hi Spinball, and Brothers, Ha Ha, I am not working in AG and not bought the management car, for my case, it is a long story! Actually, I never consider Opel at the beginning! Nine months (Aug 2016) before my old car (Citroen C5) going to scrap, I start doing homework for selecting the next car. The scrap value of C5 is quite high(cash $16k) so my max budget can be increased a bit to $120k for the next car. I prefer a bigger boot, so looking for MPV or Station Wagon. I checked with Ford, Peuguot, Renault, Citroen (Audi, BMW, Benz too expensive and high maintenance cost, not considerd) most model they promoting is Diesel engine, but for some reasons, I do not buy Diesel car! Then one day I saw the ad. saying Europe Car of the Year is Opel, an old brand but quiet in Singapore! I start searching the internet, European review is quite positive, then go to AG show room to take a look. One lady SE come by but not so friendly, no patience to answer my enquiries, maybe she is thinking I’m not the real buyer. Very bad experience! Then on Oct last year Motor show, I went to Opel booth, looking around the Astra ST, SE Jasper came and introduced this car in details. I was attracted by those features and low maintenance cost so I start another homework to check all similar cars with those features and the price. The result is either without all those features or the price is much higher. I paid additional $8k for the full options. Expecting the car will be collected on April, but AG told me because of full option, the UK plant have to delay my car to give way to assembly the standard model. After the car arrived Singapore, still need longer time for LTA inspection because of new options for this model… Finally I collected the car with some surprise 1) original leather seat, 2) 18 inch wheel, 3) ventilated two front seats, 4) all heated seats and steering wheel (meaningless in Singapore) 5) A PowerFlex Bar is already installed. 6) Two sets of 3A custom made car mat. The SE told me my car is the only one in Singapore, another one is owned by their Boss, but only 17 inch wheel. The only one, a bit worry! But don’t think too much, same have 4 wheels, just enjoy the ride
