New Kia Niro Hybrid

Anybody knows what's the speakers in the Niro ? How powerful is the HU power output ? I'm finding the Niro sound quality quite bad, and also the road noise, especially the rear is quite bad. Road noise coming from the Trunk. Considering doing sound proof, anybody done it ?

The speakers that came with Niro are cheap factory speakers so upgrade is really needed to have significant improvement in sound.

Front are 2 way speakers with the tweeters at the dashboard and the rear are just woofers.

I did soundproofing on the doors and the spare tire area due to my sub-woofer being housed there.

It did remove noise from cars driving pass but there's only slight improve in road noise. To have better road noise insulation, soundproofing will need to be done on the wheel well area.

Would waterbase mastic be a good choice or using sound deadening (dynamat xtreme) be a better choice. I bought 2x bulk pack of dynamat xtreme from USA (total 18 pieces). Trying to decide where to put them would be most effective.

You may consider waterbase mastic for the wheel arch and sound deadening for the doors and boot.

Thanks. Yah, that's what I'm thinking. Is it worth doing the hood or the firewall ? My personal view is that the noise from the rear is the worst,...but somehow the audio guy seems to think hood is a bigger probkem...

Anybody done a quote from any shops ?

I did door, floor, boot and wheel arches. Only slight improvements. I think main problem is tyres. Don't feel wheel well/arches helps on road noises.

I didn't know the rear are just woofers. That explains why the sound soft from rear speakers.

If front is tweeter and rear is just woofer, does it means they set it up as a 3 way?

On the front, there're tweeters at the dashboard and woofers at the door. For the rear is only woofers at the door. So it's a 2-way setup for the front.

If you want, you may upgrade the front with 2-way component and the rear with 2-way coaxial.

Hello all. I am considering getting a second hand Niro. For the owners, so you still love your ride? What is one thing you hope the car could be better at?

Just wondering, any chance of changing the existing entertainment unit to one that supports CarPlay or Android Auto?

Getting rather bored w the existing one.

Does anyone have experience with the Kia Niro Hybrid 2020?  On paper looks like good to me as a layman (I have next to zero experience on cars and have only owned Nissan Qashqai for couple years).   Can anyone share your personal thoughts on this car?  My use case is actually limited - just family usage, not very high mileage but I do like all those electronic conveniences and safety features.

This car has been on my shortlist for a while. I thought the recent facelift improved the exterior looks, and I really liked the interior / dashboard (though looks are always subjective, of course). For what it's worth, I thought it was less "cheap plastics" than the Nissan Kicks. Driving the car was uncomplicated - it's quiet (quieter than Kona hybrid), and there was decent pickup (although I am not a boy racer). Handling, like all Kia's, is always a little light and perhaps a little numb, but that is just being picky. Space wise, it's adequate, not generous. It's not as high as a standard SUV, closer to a conventional hatchback. The UK press is universally not terribly keen on it - not sure why, perhaps the driving feel. All the JD power reliability scores are very high, so that is reassuring. If you look at value for money, I don't think you can find a hybrid in Singapore that delivers the same value for the money, except perhaps the Kicks. Be aware that the annual road tax is higher than a standard car, and you may not "save money" on fuel unless you drive quite a bit. The downside for me was that the entry-level model doesn't come with keyless start-stop, and the higher model with blind-spot detection comes with a pointless sunroof. Trivial, but that has held me back. My 5 cents worth of the car for you!
