Nutty bro I feel your pain and frustration. I ran into the same situation as you ie 3rd party didn’t report the accident. Same shit said by the 3rd party insurer. I wrote to GIA and like some bro mentioned it’s useless, true enough I hear nothing from them. Really useless!

If MAS hear more of such situations, they may change the framework?

We need more bros here to write in the MAS and request them to review it.

U need to find someone seating high up the MAS tree and have him/her shake the tree. Then maybe something will happen.

GIA is a trade association after all, represented by members of most insurance companies. Of course they have to fight for their own rights first.

Ironically, they put consumers first, followed by agents and insurance companies in their website introduction.

Established in 1966, the General Insurance Association of Singapore (GIA) is working to make all aspects of insurance easier and more effective for consumers, agents and insurance companies in Singapore.

So that means if you hit another car, and don't make a report, the other car is unable to make a claim against you? [rolleyes]

You can escape

In a way yes. The culprit's insurer will disclaim all liability if the culprit doesn't report.

The victim will have to file a civil suit against the culprit which takes time and money.

If the culprit declare bankrupt, then LL. Victim gotta foot the bills for the lawyer and his own repair.

The culprit may not be able to get his insurance renewed the next year, but whatever punishment happens to him will not help the victim's cause.

So for hit and run, the victim is the ultimate loser.

It's useful for police to charge the culprit with careless driving. Useful for civil case.

But no use for insurance claim if the culprit doesn't report.

Thanks. Does this apply only if one driver is around? Say if I hit your car, you report to your insurance but I don’t report? You cannot claim from my insurance?

What kind of weird ruling

sad but true ...... also, if you ever get banged by a drunk driver, NEVER include in your report that he is drunk. Else same ending, his insurer void his insurance and you are left on your own.

WARPED.

Yes. I cannot claim your insurance if I report but you didn't. Even though I have video evidence.

But my insurer will inform your insurer and the report of this incident is captured in the central insurance database.

And your insurer may not offer renewal the next year. Other insurers when they see that you never report, may refuse to insure u too.

So end up, without insurance, you will not be able to drive.
