another week, another power fault. you sure it's power fault or sth else? or too many ppl inside the train making the train stuck?? or frequency too high since now need to ferry 6M ppl??? :D

our train service reliability is nowhere near swiss standard leh. maybe closer to BTS.

Our frequency is low as compared to HK.

HKMTR is running 1.5 mins interval in its oldest line.

No wonder i have to wait a little just now.

At around 0900hrs this morning, a first-generation Kawasaki Heavy Industries train developed a fault while travelling Eastbound on the East-West Line (EWL) near Clementi station.  SMRT detrained passengers at Clementi station, and proceeded to withdraw the train towards Ulu Pandan depot.

While the train was being withdrawn, a power trip was detected at 0925hrs. This caused trains on the EWL between Queenstown and Boon Lay stations to stall. Our preliminary assessment is that when the damaged train was being withdrawn, it caused damage to the tracks, including the running rails and the third rail supplying power to the train.

Due to the extent of the damage, train services will not be available on the EWL between Boon Lay and Queenstown MRT stations for at least the rest of the day,  in both directions. To ensure that commuters can continue their journeys, free regular buses and bridging buses between affected stations have been operating since 0928hrs and 0946hrs respectively.  From 5pm, SMRT will also run separate shuttle train service between Buona Vista to Queenstown MRT stations, and also between Jurong East to Boon Lay stations, at intervals of 10 minutes.

LTA has activated additional support from bus operators to improve bridging bus service ahead of the evening peak. Commuters can also board the regular bus services calling at designated bus stops at the affected stations.

Commuters are strongly advised to use alternative transport arrangements to continue their journeys, and check for updates on SMRT and LTA’s social media platforms, as well as LTA’s MyTransport app.

LTA has informed Singapore Examination and Assessment Board (SEAB) to work out arrangements.

More time may be required for repair works. During engineering hours tonight, SMRT and LTA will make further assessment whether passenger service can resume on 26 September.
