Oh wow, 3x price difference

crazy

key differences

1. case thickness and profile

2.  Oysterdate vs Princedate word imprinted on dial

3.  Dial color silver or black is most common.  Special edition is white dial grey subdials, very very low production

i had a first edition 79260 with Oysterdate on Dial sold for $9k++ around 5-6 years ago?

“Rare” tropical purple dial on solid gold Sub.

Ribena was a term i invented for this dial more than a decade ago when i was selling one of three i owned.
in the last 5 years i noticed many watch dealers (local) use the term Ribena for this dial

just to note,

1. not all tritium dials will patina.

2. Not all dials of a certain era will spider nor tropicalize.

3. no modern 6 digit ref rolex is rare.  nope not even a meteorite dial. All it takes is money.

4. any dial you can easily find sitting in several preown shops in FarEast is certainly not rare.  Eg. Meteorite dial, tiffany blue dial

so dials are super unique and thus the word rare is used to describe the dial.

Unique “fingerprint” dial on a sub14060

most spider dials are straight lines cracks on the lacquer.

This one is super unique defect in the lacquer creating fingerprint like cracks which can only be seen at an angle

Very nice up close.

Which year is it?

It would look quite similar photographed next to my full yellow gold old watch too, with white guilloche dial.

In terms of watch care for older, gold watches, do you wash it with tap water after a long sweaty day?

Do you check its pressure test first?

I know sweat don't react with gold because it is inert, but I still wash it after a long day for all my sports watches. But am exercising caution for retro gold ones like this.

Yes i do wash it with tap water before putting back into my watch box.
no i dont pressure test.  How to? I dont have the equipment.

But my watches are all waterproof, i wear them to bathe and swim, wash car, water plants etc etc….No issue.

its not the sweat that you need to worry about, but the oils.  Our skin does produce some oils which can cause oxidisation on gold.  Also fingers touching here and there and onto the watch. So its good to wash a gold watch with water and wipe down with a soft cloth after a day’s wear.
