A clean modern classic .  One of the better choices for new Rolex.

after they mess up with the case profiles 2 decades ago, Rolex finally understood that the classic look is the way to go for Datejusts, OPs, Subs, GMTs and just about every Rolex model there is.

My only concern is Rolex is getting bigger. The DJ41, Sub, OP are 41mm, while there are others bigger still. I like the classical size 40mm and below because they sit better on my wrist.

Absolutely.  40mm and 36mm are my go to sizes as well.  I would have very much preferred my OP to be 40 or 39 like the Explorer39 and my TudorGold.

Rolex should never cater to the whims of the Trendy Market.
Sadly they did, in the name of keeping up with the times.
Thats also one reason why my love for Rolex has waned.

Good thing they made a U turn and got rid of the super cases, also trimming down the lugs albeit upping the sizing to 41.

Understandably, Rolex seems to still be looking out more for their European , American market despite it being the number one in Asia, and this part of the world.

New model clasp top vs my old model clasp bottom

New one is Long with angular edges and a poorer design with strap attachment part sticking out.
poor overall design compared to the old model which is smaller with rounded edges and a superior cleaner design

the OysterFlex strap in itself is also a failure

How does the OF strap feel on the wrist? I have neither owned nor tried before.

Thats the million dollar question.
to me the oysterflex feels horrible on my wrist.
becos you are forced to wear it “tighter” than you should, and even so it still gives a fat and overly thick illusion.

not to mention, that the ribs behind pushes against your wrist.  Its simply dumb Swiss over engineering (the germans are often guilty too)

So in a nutshell, fail fail fail. I will never buy a Rolex with the Oysterflex both becos of the oysterflex strap and the ugly buckle.

Sorry for the rant, but being a long time Rolex supporter, it simply irritates me when they make such dumb errors.

please dont buy one, ever

Other than the OPs, the Datejust 36 ref 126234 or 126200 are probably the best new Rolexes to buy today.
Perfect balance in form and function.  Deep in heritage.
Retaining the all necessary classic features and proportions and incorporating true upgrades in terms of design, build quality and feel.

Choice of oyster or jubilee for bracelet and choice of fluted or dome bezel, i myself am tempted to be really honest to get one, especially since i have sold all my steel datejusts….

Thanks but can it be switched into leather with pin buckle? Gold Rolex is so sexy if not for the rubber strap.

Yes easily, on your own.
Just waste the money for the clasp and oysterflex.……or get the older model 116518, or 16518, they come in a variety of alligator skin straps.

for that reason, over the years, i sourced several 18k solid gold Rolex buckles which i use on a variety of gold Rolex heads

if you like 36mm Rolex, the daydate 118138 on alligator strap is also a really beautiful choice

100% the rarest first edition solid gold Yachtmaster 16628.
With the swiss-T<25 Red Ruby MOP dial

The 2nd edition Yachtmaster 16628 with swiss or swiss made Red Ruby MOP dial is also pretty uncommon but still available in the preown market.
