Watch Part V

20 years ago, I joined a group of watch guys in HK to commission Sea Gull factory to make a small batch to our specifications

like throttle said, it is a little better than russian quality and finishing

but the case to dial ratio is weird

winding and chrono pushers action are rough and vague

for a proper column wheel chrono, it is cheap

we wanted it without the logo, it is not removed by photoshop 😁

I like this, the case shape and bezel thickness are much more eye pleasing than mine

same Venus 175 clone movement I guess?

Classic seagull winding chrono.
used to be really cheap like under a $100, i recall.  Nowadays double the price.
for a mechanical watch, still excellent price i guess

theres a quartz version, super super cheap like $30

i cant tell the difference from this picture whether yours is mech or quartz version but i am guessing you wont buy the quartz version?

Mechanical. Watch will stop running in very cold weather. When 'thawed' it starts again.

This looks like a late production 16520 daytona with 4030 (el primero modded movement)

Base on the dial and SEL bracelet, I am guessing this would be a 2000/01 production watch literally the last of the "zenith" Daytonas

I got this from WatchPalace about 20 yrs ago.  hardly anyone was wearing a Daytona.

Nowadays its so friggin common.  feel like doing some modding.....give it some reinvented vintage makeover.......

A clean modern classic .  One of the better choices for new Rolex.

after they mess up with the case profiles 2 decades ago, Rolex finally understood that the classic look is the way to go for Datejusts, OPs, Subs, GMTs and just about every Rolex model there is.

HK is still one of the best places for watch shopping.  Also has a great cigar community and culture.

my next trip, i will see if i can visit the DiW office.  No money to buy, maybe can look see look see.

Yeah, partly why I dont bother with new modern pieces in general.   Y2K and earlier much preferred.  Whether real of fake, tons of people wearing those.

The only current modern pieces I own now are 2 OPs in green, 41mm and 36mm as couple watch for me and my wife.   The look remained 100% classic OP so its "acceptable" to me.

Also a 2004 116518 early edition Daytona PN dial, which is probably one of the bestest iteration of the gold Daytona

wearing the original Ribena Gold today
