what u guys think?

Has the Hermes Birkin lost any market demand after years of planned scarcity?  Nope, it went the other way: up and up, and had never lost momentum nor interest among luxury bag fans.

Why should we expect the Daytona to be any different? It's the face of Rolex, the flagship model, the icon.  You're wrong if you think Rolex is going to destroy any of the value it had spent many hundreds of millions and decades building. It would be corporate suicide and they will never recover from it - they had seen the mistakes Omega had made in the 80s regarding their watch supply....they are still reeling from it. Can you believe that the Speedmaster used to be more highly valued than a Rolex Daytona?

More recently, look at what Panerai did to their owners. Increased supply to make money... But wiping out a lot of value.. And destroyed demand in the process... Pam owners felt betrayed, cheated and left the brand in droves.

To keep the general masses interested in steel sports Rolex, I think they will choose a few less important, but still desirable, models such as the various GMTs, the SD and DS, maybe the Sub, to increase supply a little.... Just to satiate the masses. Not too much, just enough, to keep the watches desirable.  The OP39 is also a good cash cow in their arsenal to boost bottom line sales, as it had received 100% positive critical reviews (most notably the Hodinkee people) for some years since it was launched - it's value for money but feels/looks classy and performs like a champ - and Rolex has no need to worry about the demand-supply dynamics for this model.

Get it while it's still under the radar..... 😉

I own all three colors of the ETA movement, rose logo smiley black bays and they are also the watches I wear most often: swimming, golf, tennis (and I have a double handed backhand) BBQ, casual functions, etc.

I can't explain it. They aren't luxury watches, nobody is going to go "wow look at that." Nor are they worthy of any horological acclaim, being ETA movements. They just wear damn well on the original bracelets and also on straps. They also sit very well on the wrist due to the recessed caseback compared to the current in-house ones.

I guess I am just a simple guy at heart. 😉

Yup.

These Tudors will just be regular watches trading in the $3-5k range.  Simple just put on wrist, lost at party, thrown into sea, dented in crash, no problem

They will never be true connoiseur watches.

the true tudors are all before 1998.

What’s happening to the Tudor GMT? I can’t seems to land one Asia Pac? Love the red blue colours, saw one of my friends got one and it looks fantastic with the Color combination!

but I can’t seems to get one here, even in our region, been to Msia, HK, all no stock..

waiting period is 1 yrs, that too, no guarantee of the bracelet model!!

LOL the watch industry is full of shit la.

If you want one, just get Bnib one off the gray market.

I personally wouldn't cos the movement sucks and there is a date wheel issue plaguing many of them.

Let Tudor sort out their in-house movement first loh... I think it's their first in-house GMT movement so teething problems.

vintage Rolex on holiday

By the way, "true connoisseurs" don't collect vintage pieces without provenance one... Unless the provenance happened to be Marlon Brando or Paul Newman. For most pieces however, having a known origin is important.

There are many of these crap old pieces in the global marketplace, watch only without papers, many are franken and have faked details and parts, last time dirt cheap, now sibei inflated due to many many gongkia frying and eating.

Even if come with full set, also can be faked one. Many tricks these days and the technicians' skills are so good now.

T2 is wheeler dealer and knows what he's doing. For noobs, better don't touch this stuff.

If you want to know how dirty these vintage dealers are, just Google can le. Many stories.

Ah on the contrary, the true connoisseurs are those who do not insist on papers.
you got that a bit mixed up.

those who go for full provenance, or insist on the works etc usually dont know their stuff.    It doesnt make them a true connoisseur.

yes, dont touch vintage  Rolex, if you are noob.   it is definitely not for everyone.

5 digit references are great Rolexes to beat, mostly for under $15k still.
