2017 2nd Generation Mazda CX-5

Just signed the Super-Lux package.

 

The downside of this package is that it is factory fitted with White leather seat (only). I've highlighted the difficulty in maintaining pure white leather seat and insisted on changing them away..... Even Off-white or Beige color would be anytime better and easier to maintain. Unfortunately, they claimed that I couldn't change the leather color option.

 

Any tips on how to maintain the pristine condition of this color ?

I wanted to sign for the Super Lux, but because of the white leather seat (deal breaker), I went with the Lux model instead.....getting my ride on 8 Aug

 

As for the rest of the safety features, LDA and LDW, I felt it will become an annoying thing which I will switch off,  smart city brake is the only feature that I felt was useful, ALH, have dun have will not make a difference to me.

Like Sparhawk699 said, the White leather was an instant turn-off when they told me that I couldn't change it. It was almost a deal-breaker but I thought with extra effort, I might be able to keep it as pristine as possible (finger crossed). Also, I am appealing to Mazda to let me change to off-white or beige.... shall see how it goes.

 

I know my wife's driving pattern (Hahahaha) so having these extra safety features (read: irritating alarm) may force her to drive properly - e.g. check blind spot, signal before turning, keep within her lane, etc. The extra 4k is worth irritating her to drive properly! Hahahaha. 

 

As for decision process - I've also shortlisted Hyundai Tucson, Harrier Turbo, Peugeot 3008, BMW X1 as the finalists. The final 2 contenders were Harrier vs Cx-5 after balancing various factors like depreciation, value-for-money, reliability, features, aesthetics and performance.

 

To be honest, I think being in love with the interior of the car is also a crucial decision point It was a tough fight between the two and despite Harrier Turbo being more powerful (which I don't speed) and more spacious (I have small family), I am bored of the same old Toyota cockpit design that has never change for years. To be fair, I spent 90% of my time inside the car so I think the form-factor is as important.

 

The only downside is the white leather - very beautiful, but hard to maintain.

 

 

Don't wear jeans or any material that will stain the white leather. Very industrial in cleaning your leather seats monthly if not weekly.

Ban your kids from the car (joking). 

Get some customised car seat protector, but that will spoil the looks. 

 

Btw, in the face of the overwhelming BM's Harrier Turbo  force, you chose the contrarian competitor. First of all, kudos to that! But will be keen to hear your decision making process.

I did read up on light coloured leather issues previously because my CO's Saab is light beige leather and interior. So specifically you will want to watch out for stains that potentially will become permanent due to the fact that genuine leather (natural skin) is very susceptible to dyes and stains.

Good luck in your quest to change out your white leather. In case you manage to do so, I suggest going for at least brown or black. Beige is not easy to maintain as well.

My friend was very pro Harrier till he went to check out CX-5 with me. After test driving both, he much prefer the drive of CX-5, good actual power, and good steering feel and handling. He said he can't feel Harrier's power despite its 2.0 turbo and the steering was too light and lack feel

To me the interior is also an important factor, the harrier console looks so dated, even the gear stick is something like in the eighties. Not to forget, being turbo, it will be noisy when the turbo kicks in. Furthermore, I hate the looks of the Harrier....like I said, this is my perspective.

Agree.Although I may not changing car anytime now,but still prefer the new CX5 with the power(more pick up power than my current 2013 version CX5) ,interior and shape,love the 2.5L.

I have the same view as you on Harrier.....the only good is the back seat is more spacious than CX5. The whole car itself looks bloated.

 

Yes, I fully agree. To me, the Harrier just looks very dated. CX5 looks amazingly sexy, inside and out. A definite head turner if you ask me. If you don't have a large family, or require a large 2nd row the CX5 would definitely be my choice .
