I am looking at used Volvos that are around 7-8yo as I saw that their depre quite ok. (About 9k to 10k) I saw S60 T2, T4, T5 and S80 T4 (1.6L) and etc. Will like to see your opinions which model is better to get in terms of maintenance and servicing for a used Vovlo? And there are other things to take note of? Thanks! Volvos were well-known for safety but spare part pricing is expensive hence the attractive 2nd hand price relative to their original price. Make no mistake though, it reflects the poor fundamentals as a used car proposition. The cars you are looking at are probably traded-in at paper value and thus you should not expect to get anything substantial on top of paper value when you scrap or sell the car (whatever Volvo you buy) at the end of its 10 year lifespan.

Yes avoid the Ford Dual Clutch transmission. 5 banger engine most robust, but all 9 year old already. Volvos should be reliable based on my own experience. Probably will keep mine beyond 10 year. Source your own parts from the Sin Ming stockist or from overseas if you have time. Taobao/Aliexpress, eBay, Amazon etc. Most are very reasonable, sometime I bought so rediculously cheap too! Went to most of the workshops that service bobo. All say this problem they cannot do. Must go back tok kor. Same like the TCU replacement. Need to go back for programming. Bo bian.

I stand corrected on the new TCM - it requires reprogram to alert ECU there’s a new organ.

Soya Supersonic March 3, 2020 Share March 3, 2020 The T badge on bobo used to signify performance models. It was simply T4 (4cyl S40), T5 (5cyl S60) and T6 (6 cyl S80). The S40 T4 was a fast & furious TP pursuit car in Sg Pity how the bobo marketeers hv degenerated the T4 badge to a lame badging exercise for underpowered models.... Used to mean 4, 5 and 6 cylinder engines with higher outputs. Now all 4 (or 3?) bangers with different turbos/tune. Much like the Germans 2.0 also marketed as 350, or Audi with even higher numbers plucked from the air. It's rank inflation, everyone also called a director or CEO.....

The S40 T4 was a fast & furious TP pursuit car in Sg Pity how the bobo marketeers hv degenerated the T4 badge to a lame badging exercise for underpowered models.... In 2010 Volvo changed their engine branding nomenclature so that it is independent of engine size and number of cylinders. The letter "D" designates diesel and "T" petrol. Letters are followed by a number that dictate the level of power. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Volvo_engines The association of the number after the T designation should no longer be associated with the number of cylinders for Volvo engine. The same can be said for BMW 318, 320, 325, 330 etc which the latter two numbers were used to designate the engine capacity. It is the prerogative for the company to continue to use such designation. I do not see anything wrong with that. S40 T4 fast and furious? More likely because they are traffic police cars that drivers give them the respect and/or obey the rules when waved to the road shoulder. Underpowered is such a subjective word. T8 engine specs would be underpowered to a supercar owner, but for the mass consumers, that isn't the case.
