Because of initial cost savings in office rentals, utilities bills. CEOs happy like bird.

But now companies realize all those savings are nullified by a less productive WFH workforce.

based on text book theory,

WFH suppose to INCREASE productivity .. wor

no travelling = no waste of time

zoom here zoom there = easy to communicate , easy to hold meeting or huddle for quick discussion

staff is happy (can stay home, especially parent with kid) = increase productivity

flexibility (millennial)  = can work any where any time any place ... song song gao Starbuck

but in reality

all chill and netflix ... LOL

From my own experience, definitely less productive and more misunderstandings and conflict. Bad for teamwork.

WFH is bulls**t la. Like i always say, many people even work in the office also do their own things at their desk. And go for long lunch break and toilet/smoke break.

No one would believe they would work during WFH.

But the irony is that while rank-and-file must end WFH and return to office, in many of these tech companies, the senior management still retain the privilege of WFH.

So it's not a question of work effectiveness but a question of trust. Sad to say, many of these companies hire and retain people they cannot trust [laugh]

My supporting team all from other countries...... So if I go office or work at home no difference.....

I rather spend my time with customers and business partners. (Can be face to face, text or emails) But even customers also prefer text or emails now.....

Now I save on fuel and driving on road. And I create less congestion in road during peak hours.

Save on fuel only if your home is far from office. But saving on the stress of waking up early and traveling to work is true.

Hahaha, it has been like that since work week was 5 1/2 days decades ago.

Do anything also must have self discipline. Now mostly WFO, all the si ginas cannot wake up and come office on time but they know how to leave on time leh.

Early morning only see all the old guards like me in office

Less productivity.

Some minister say our younger generation smarter so can give higher starting pay like at least $4.5K.

Guess where all the productivity went even with a smarter work force but our ministers dunno meh?

:XD:

Offer lower than $4.5K our smarter young work force rather shake legs at home.

Luckily not all like that but easily half are like that these days, really a big concern then no jobs for those above 40.

Younger generation in this era indeed smarter, this one i don't deny. You see that they are very well and out spoken and know how to sell themselves well. Can see that during job interview and meetings.
