I believe the issue after bobby went off was 2-fold. The formation deployed on Sun was pretty unusual so the team probably isnt familar. Bobby was replaced by Shaq and then it was quite visible that Pool played like a 4-4-2 with both Salah and Jota the 2 furthest forwards.  Think this formation was meant to hit city on the counter while consolidating through the middle when defending.  Apparently, this made the team less fluid and the fatigue of the players in the 2nd half didn't help.

When Bobby was playing in the first half, the team pressed really high and he was particularly useful in that press. However, his link up play and general touches were pretty poor and I feel his form is on a slide nevertheless. Maybe he is feeling pressure from Jota.

This means that there is no like-for-like replacement for the important (or should it be irreplaceable) role that Firmino plays... 😓

With him playing (well), Mane and Salah will have more space and opportunities.

Once Firmino is off, the shape an style of the team has to change, cos noone else can do what he does. I remember Gini was asked to do it once running up to the UCL triumph when Firmino was injured,  and he said afterwards that it was extremely tough job, and wondered how Firmino does it game after game...

When we beat Barca in that classic match, Firmino and Salah were both injured, and the style of play was totally different - even though we got the results.

There was hope that Mina would be able to replicate what Firmino does, but it seems like not much success there.

Even if Firmino is not having a bad stretch, he will likely be too old in max 3-4 years' time, if not earlier - at this elite level... If we want to have the same success playing the same style, then it's important to identify and groom a like-for-like successor, either now or in the near future.

What bad luck with injuries, just got the below news, 😡

Liverpool defender Joe Gomez has suffered a potentially serious injury during England training.

The FA has yet to comment on the incident, which occurred during Wednesday morning's session, but Gomez is understood to be receiving treatment, while the extent of the injury is being assessed. England manager Gareth Southgate is scheduled to address the media on Wednesday evening.

Wtf... it doesn't rain, it pours... 😭

well we deserve it, didn't we ?

Gomez & Matip were sick bay regulars. Even Lovren had injuries issues. We all dread the day VVD injured, unfortunately it had to be a BIG one. We had 2 seasons to plan for this but we failed to.

Who can foresee VVD, TAA, Fabinho and now Gomez ALL out at the same times!  No players in this world can proclaim they are injuries immune.

Cannot blame the management in my opinion. No corporation/club in the world can has such contingency plan in place.

Hope those young players can step up.

Bt the way other clubs also have their fair share of injuries. Just that ours all centre around defence.

Sigh....

sounds bad isn't it. any knee injury will take a few months out. Just hope it is not the worst case.

Again I go back to the overly aggressive position at the close of the earlier transfer window with only 3 recognizable senior CBs. The added load of this season just renders these decisions looking really naïve now that we have only 1 senior CB who has played so little minutes in the last year.  Even if the transfer window opens today, buying a CB isn't just a plug and play. Any CB coming thru the door will need time to adapt to the way Pool plays.

2nd question is whether buying 1 CB is enough to last through the rest of the season.  We can do the math without a rocket science degree.   Buying any player in the Jan window is usually very difficult.  Things are clearly all against us at the moment.

Instead of Jan transfer market I would prefer kloop to groom our kids. Maybe they might turn out to be another VVD.

This season so unpredictable so who know what might happen come may next year.

I tend to agree, it is difficult to “foresee” the extent of injuries.
We are NOT a super wealthy club, JK went into the season with 3 Recognized CBs along with the likes of FAB, Hendo being able to supplement. Plus the couple of Youngsters.

Well, it is going to be all hands on deck (at least until Jan). We shall prevail.

Our defense - the centre backs - are really injury-prone... is it the way Pool plays? or is it the tough trainings, or is it just suay that we just gum gum buy all the injury-prone ones??

from last time Agger, Lovren, Matip, Gomez, and now add VVD and even Fabinho the make-shift one, all tio... 😰

Still many matches to go before window opens, and almost every other top team is looking for decent CBs, so there are not many good options to begin with, and they will certainly not come cheap, the decent/good ones.

Which is the reason why i really really hate that prick-ford for so recklessly injuring VVD. that prick deserves a heavy punishment.

and our reserves are not really developing too well too. Where's the young dutch that we thought when he signed, was gonna be the next vvd? even that tall kid koumetio also injured, i believe...

This is extraordinary time... maybe really should ask Origi to convert to play CB... For starters, he has the height...
