Volvo XC40 and the after service

I have been driving my brand new XC40 R Design since August 2021. My writing this topic is to share my experience and the same time to provide alert to those who are considering purchasing particular brand.

It all seemed fair and lovely in the beginning. After driving the car for some time, wrote to VCC (Volvo Car Corporation) international in Novemeber 2021 on some feedback. I won't waste time on those details as it's not my main intend here. VCC, although my feedback was something only the manufacturer can address, refered to Volvo Singapore. That was puzzling because local distributors will not have such control on the feedback i wrote to Volvo about. I was tagged to a particular technician/advisor. Since then, things have gone from sour to disgusting ever since then. I am not blaming the advisor for this because for all we know, he could be overwhelmed. But my point here is, after sales standard, for purchasing a brand new car. It has been nothing short of disappointment. My latest experince was, i was involved in a particular road rage incident where while i was exiting a carpark where cars were parked on one side of the entrance/exit, and on coming car drove straight towards my car, against the traffic flow. He stopped and did not move, i waited to see his reaction. Eventually raised my hand to show i have right of way. He showed middle finger and reversed out. I was pissed and signed to him what's his problem. Next thing i know, he drives aggressively forward, stops his car and refuses to move. And i can't go around him either because of the cars parked illegally along the road. My wife started to panick saying don't get out of the car and i didn't want to upset her. Once one of the car drove off on my left, i overtook this moron and wished him best of luck for his attitude and drove off not wanting to aggrevate the situation. Now here's my disappointing pain point. When i wanted to download the video to see how best i should take the incident foward, (wasnt intending to post on social media at that point ya), the clip had some issues. After downloading the video on my phone, it does not play. So i tried downloading the video from the SD card. Here's the show stopper, the particular video clip is no longer in the SD Card. And the downloaded version does not play on my phone or any other video players either. So I reached out to the advisor since 28th March and he has not provided an amicable solution and neither has he replied to my messages since my last one sent on 4th April. There's no follow ups to date. And the best part, the Car Cam is a Volvo product with its logo.

Now, anyone ever faced similar such substandard after service in Volvo or in particular Wearnes? I had similar poor experince when i was driving my RR Evoque. But from some feedback, i gathered Volvo had much better service standards even though it was under Wearnes. But with my latest experince, it seems like no matter which product an entity represents, the substandard services always precede thier reputation. Please do share you experinces if any, only constructive ones to enlighten other followers here. Thank you.

Oh Dude. Do take your time. This is my car ownership history just so everyone knows i have had my hands on some decent cars to compare the actual build of the XC40.

Started with a Civic2006, moved to a MarkX, Then A4, BMW 120, Evoque 2015 and eventually traded the Evoque for the XC40. Not enjoying the ride at all. A test drive only reveals so much about a car. But on day to day basis, its a whole new experience. Couple that with such service, vomit blood. I knew about PM standards some time ago. But i didnt know C&C also plaqued by same issues. Going to PI not only saves money, it also allows more direct access to the distributor. Thanks for your sharing.

Lolzz. The root cause is after service Soya. I gave the history so the story line makes sense. Let me try to summarize and explain.

VCC referring my email to local distributor even though i was addressing manufacturing related issues was wierd in many sense. Because the salesman told  me its a root cause problem and local distributor can't do much.

It was a mix of mech and factory problem.

The road rage was explicitly highlighted to showcase the importance of car cam technology, which Volvo provided and yet failed when the driver needs it when faced with a dire issue.

Hope its clearer now. Cheers.

When i was driving my evoque, i was also blessed to have met a good workshop in Lengkee. They were good who could support quite a number of conti cars.

No point mixing everything together and getting so upset. If no confidence in the brand, juz sell it and move on. Been there done that

Got ppl who buy Lexus oso got unhappy stories. And some say PA suxs but i find them quite ok

Sometimes maybe it's really a feng shui thingy......

The car cam with wowo name on it is some 3rd party China brand slaps with the name. Not a reliable cam. Many owners swap out to more reliable ones.

I'm still using it though just need to check the recordings once in a while to make sure it works. 😁

On the service side...go to volvo polestar singapore club to read on the rantS...the first line staff may be ok but not higher up...

VCC won't entertain email but deflect to AD...even the door lock mechanism fault on certain MY of one model needed LTA to step in to get their attention to rectify...

XC40 is a good model in wowo lineup that has won many awards...just enjoy the ride n care less about the afters ale(space intended to hint bitterness 😁) service so long they take care of it under warranty. Resident Ah Mock, a car nut is into his 2nd XC40 says alot about the car.

Sorry, me no volvo owner.

You highlighted a safety concern regards the in-house brand of car cam to VCC which got arrowed back to AD, who says it's a root problem as VCC decides on Car Cam brand/factory installed, out of their hands per se.

Prior to this road rage, did u at any time download any footage b4? Or did u check if car cam is working, or working well or assumed it should be well?

Cos it may have already been a malfunctioning or faulty unit from day one, which could be replaced and thus avoided this situation.

Moving forward, good to have it changed and yes, need to periodically do a hard reset of SD card (a common problem, not sure if its related to our friendly Sun).

The main thing is that you can drive more confidently, knowing that your car cam is working well.

No way to retrieve old footage. Can't even be sure it managed to record in first place.

Thanks for sharing. Think wise for all new car owners to check on car cam that came with the ride. And if within warranty, get a new replacement. Otherwise, go for a better set.

This age and time of living, alot  of drivers told to be outright liars. No seed or backbone type.

Stay safe

Cheers
