Tianmo Hypersonic December 27, 2023 Share December 27, 2023 Actually, I think in SG, buying an used EV is really not an issue, as long as the buyer standby a Honda generator in the boot, fill up with fuel.

With Elon dropping new prices by 20-30%, it makes the case worse to buy secondhand. Until it's sorted, I won't mind buying an ICE that's done 60k kms in 3yrs, it's a proven workhorse with a couple hundred thousand kms still within reach. Technology development is already showing. 2 yrs ago most EV can only run 300km, now many are going in the range of 400-500km, in the next 2 yrs, I won't be surprised to see ranges of 600-700km, maybe even close to 1000km on paper which may also require lesser charging time on most EVs. So if there is no change in charging infrastructure, and depreciation is close, would you buy a new EV of 700km range, or a 4 yrs old used EV running on a discounted 300km range? The EV market in China, USA and SG are all different. The motivation behind the support of EV by CCP is a need, whereas in USA it is not a priority. Both very much link to oil reserves and imports, as well as industrialation, solar power development and in china pollution. In china, the huge used EV market is basically the used EVs replacing the old ice cars. If every new car sold is an EV, then every used car in the market will be an used EV, that's logic. If I read correctly, as of 2022, 70% of new cars sold in china now is an EV, and a local brand, local made. Which again brings us back to the motivation behind the support from their gov, which is a need. If 70% of new cars sold in the market is an EV, then obviously the used EV market will be huge. SG is totally different here. I abit dumb. I dunno id you are trying to encourage us to buy EV anot. 🤣 Just buy or not ah? hahaha

Lala81 Hypersonic December 27, 2023 Share December 27, 2023 my wife's elantra can reach 2038 when renew COE in 2028. So honestly, i don't really care anything about EV. My estate still haven't even accepted allowing EV charging yet. My workplace MSCP also no EV charging. And i'm sure the f**king a**hole installers will take away the parking lots most convenient for me. 1

If someone is using mostly the DC fast chargers at workplace, your battery will be have significant degradation by the end of the 1st or max 2nd user. The fast chargers are meant to maximise the availability of the charger (time to get a new customer vs cost incurred in fast charging). So it's not vis a vis same as petrol stations. Have to take into account that the vast majority of owners in bigger countries, use home overnight charging which is slow, but is the one which maximises the battery. Probably still fine in SG with very short ranges unless u like to get stuck in customs jams on the 2nd link/causeway. Will just be a trade off that u have to accept. And 100% u won't know the battery degradation on that few minute test drive u get at the 2nd hand dealer. My iphone got battery health indicator. Not sure if there is such a thing in EV. Not sure if there is such a thing in EV. iphone only had this feature after they got exposed few years ago, limiting the charging speeds and throttling the capabilities of the cpu to preserve battery life when your phone ages past year 1-2. Haha they did not do this willingly or out of their kindness of their hearts 😄 if u have rechargeable batteries also and test their voltage, u would also know that "battery health" is quite subjective. It may maintain voltage and seem healthy, but discharges abnormally fast. Of course can be estimated with algorithms etc. But I'm sure all these are kept quiet and internal only, so that they don't give data to be a point of advertising by other companies. bsswan 6th Gear December 27, 2023 Share December 27, 2023 @Tianmo Breakthrough battery powers electric car for 1,000km from a single charge | The Independent https://www.independent.co.uk/tech/electric-car-new-battery-nio-et7-b2469253.html Quote This battery is currently the battery pack with the highest energy density in mass production in the world and has excellent safety performance. More importantly, all models on sale can be flexibly upgraded to 150kWh batteries through the Nio battery swap system. Quote Nio’s president Qin Lihong said that buying the new battery outright would cost 298,000 yuan (£33,000) – roughly equivalent to the price of a Tesla Model 3 – which is why the company advocates the use of a hire scheme for its customers as well as for the electric vehicle industry as a whole. For reference, a Tesla Model S battery is 95kWh for just ~640kms (quoted) so Nio attempt 50% increase in battery capacity for a near double amount of range as they reported a test at 1145kms and...... more BANG for your buck.
